Yes I did notice some improvments for example the windows button, when pressed used to take a minute or two to pop up but now its only a second or so. Browsers are somewhat easier to use now.
While it is not the fastest, it is definitely an improvement!
Is there anything else I should do?
The fastest boot times are when only Microsoft services are on.
That is clean boot.
If there are 1 or 2 programs that you always use then you can have them available on boot.
That makes it a selective boot.
Currently you are using normal boot and have 3 programs displayed as startup services.
If you have items that are off during boot it takes a little longer to use them when you want them.
And if you have all items off on boot you can view task manager and you may notice lower percentage numbers for CPU, DISK, RAM, etc.
Take a look at msconfig to see the non-Microsoft services that are being launched on boot.
So you choose the balance that you prefer.
Hi I am unsure what 'when Microsoft services are on' means.
Currently, I do only have 3 programs listed and enabled on startup services.
HP Delivery and Status Service, HP Message Service and Realtek HD Audio Manager.
There isn't anything else listed to enable. Should there be?
What is a clean boot and do I need to do one? If so, how do I do a clean boot?
Should I also be concerned about windows not being up to date due to low disk space?

In order to upgrade there needs to be at least 16 GB free space:

Thanks - Is there a tutorial available on how to update using an external drive?
There are 2 tutorials:
1) In place upgrade repair............for this to be successful it would need 16 GB free space and there is approximately 7 GB.

2) Clean install can be done any time:

3) If you have important files you can create a backup image and save the image on another driver or in the cloud.
Then you can restore the image if you get a new drive. It may even be possible to clean install and restore on this drive to accomplish an upgrade. There are others that may know more for the smaller drives.

You don't need one, your Laptop will have been ID by Microsoft. Stickers are no longer used since about Windows 8.1
The basic problem with laptops with 32 GB drives is they quickly become unusable by anyone except an expert. They should not be produced and sold at all in my view, quite ridiculous.
To be honest you are wasting a lot of time on something that is basically inadequate. You have to face facts.
Such laptops in UK fall in to the category of "unfit for purpose".

I agree with you regarding the laptop being unfit but would like to make it at least usable for browsing etc not planning to install many apps.
Do you think it's not worth doing a clean or repair install?
Should I attempt to return it? I purchased it over 2 years ago. I think it won't be possible to return but can attempt to fish out the warranty.
