Need some direction on how best to upgrade my PC

Hello all! I am not new to PC use and gaming, but I am new to figuring out the hardware on my PC. I got quite a nice gaming PC many years ago and would like to look into upgrading at this point. However, I am not really sure where best to start there. I was hoping that you all could provide me with some advice on how best to proceed.

My current set-up is:

Windows 10 64-bit
Intel Core i7-4770 CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
8192MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760


I am assuming that I would look into upgrading my graphics card, but wasn't sure if there are other areas I should look at as well. Also, if you have any recommendations on graphics cards, it would be appreciated! I will mostly use my PC for gaming and steaming Netflix and such.

Also, I would be the one installing any upgrades on my PC. Are there any good sites/videos to look at to learn how to do this type of thing?

Thanks for the replies! As for budget, I don't really want to break the bank, but maybe in the $200-$500 range? Being new to this I am not exactly sure if this would get me where I need, but I figure this is a good place to start.

With out your complete system specs (everything)....we can only speculate on what we can suggest. From what you have listed....there are two critical ones....RAM and GPU.

The cheapest way out would be RAM - doubling what you have to 16 GB. What to recommend, we need to know what mobo you have. Then couple that with a SSD. That should make your system lighting fast.

Next would be the GPU and depending on what type of gaming you do (light or heavy - GPU intensive) a GTX 1080. That will kill your $500 budget and then some just for the GPU.

You will need to decide which way you want to go.

Yes if you don't have a SSD for you OS drive that would be the most noticeable upgrade you can make. You'll instantly see the difference moving up from a spinner hard drive. Depending on what your motherboard will take the best presently are M2. NVME SSD Samsung Evo or pro. Here are a few to look at.
Upgrading to 16 GB of ram will be good, probably won't notice the difference but there will be things working better and faster be sure to match up the new RAM to the Old ones as much as possible but Minimum is Timings and Voltages.
NVidia is in the 1000 GTX series now you can get one from any where from $100 or so on up to $600 or so there's a few to look at.

100% agree with the ssd recommendations. Single biggest improvement you can do if presently on a spinner drive.
