Okay so under the parts list I picked it says the Ryzen 5 includes a CPU cooler.
Should I be purchasing a cooler anyway? Right now I don't have one selected.

I've got an ASUS board picked that looks pretty good overall. It's the B350-F, seems to have the features I'm after.

Also going with a higher wattage in the PSU as per recommendations.

i never use the stock cooler, and from what i've read it is strongly recommended not to use the stock cooler for the ryzen.

    EDIT:

just looked at that asus mobo at newegg and looks pretty good.

I noticed the motherboard supports the following memory types:
    DDR4-2133 / 2400 / 2666 / 2933 / 3200

While the memory I selected is 3000. What happens?

to protect you cpu there is no such thing as overkill. i believe that's the gen after what my roommate has and his keeps the ryzen at under 20c. i'd say that's perfect for you.

then select either the 2666 or 2933 and i really would do more than 16 gigs.

I'd say personally you could have done it a lot cheaper, e.g. without fan controller, etc, but if you want to do it like that and like having all the extra features then by all means use them, if you're willing to pay.

Probably you're looking at an old list I made before posting this thread. It's been updated quite a bit. I'd certainly be grateful if you had a quick look and let me know what you think!!

    System Builder - Ryzen 5 1600X 3.6GHz 6-Core, GeForce GT 1030 2GB Low Profile, 750D ATX Full Tower - PCPartPicker Canada

    This is the current one.

Thanks for that, I had no idea! The CPU is definitely a better deal, considering the clock speed and number of cores in relation to the price, and i also noticed the lack of a fan controller(!) But seriously, i think it was a good idea to remove it, and this is a much better design.
