Phase Change = Heat Pipes + Heat Spreader

Nothing special about it, has been used 2 different types in refrigerators and laptops for ages. Only problem with laptops is that you can not stick a big heat spreader in it, so it requires a fan to be more efficient. Many electronic devices uses heat pipes connected to the case for cooling the critical components.

A desktop build on the other hand...oh yeah! Great idea! Big enough heat spreaders and you can keep pretty much anything cool.

That case seems to support fans too for more efficient cooling...so overclocking is possible. Love it!

Isn't phase change about using Peltier effect semi-conductors ? If it does it would typically draw some extra 30W from the PSU. Not very green I'd say and you'd still need to get rid of the heat it generates.

Phase change has been used for extreme overclocking for a long time now.
It can even get colder than nitrogen or helium, but then "cold bug" will bite.
With phase change they can control the temps a lot easier and more accurately.

NO!

The six types of Phase change:

Freezing: the substance changes from a liquid to a solid.

Melting: the substance changes back from the solid to the liquid.

Condensation: the substance changes from a gas to a liquid.

Vaporization: the substance changes from a liquid to a gas.

Sublimation: the substance changes directly from a solid to a gas without going through the liquid phase.

Deposition: the substance changes directly from a gas to a solid without going through the liquid phase.


In the computer world and the refrigerator world we are only interesred in Vaporization and Condensation. We either use heatpipes or to get subzero temperatures we can use a compressor to raise the pressure in the tubes so it liquidifies and then release the pressure near the hot surface so the liquid evaporates and transfers heat away from the hot surface.

A peltier element is a bit different though the effect is the same when it comes to transferring heat.

Phase changers remove heat from computer components. That's good.
How does it remove the heat properly from the computer without fans.
Waiting for the old natural way of heat rises and therefore cooling, doesn't seem to be as being enough with 4 super duper video cards. Those little holes in the video cards that blow hot air out of the video cards using the cards fans just don't seem to me as enough.

Something else that comes to mind: If a setup like that is so great why after years, isn't it being marketed.
If it worked many would buy such a system. Maybe only 1 of those video cards would be more than enough.

Phase changer units are usually a piece of equipment next to the PC, and if they are built into a case, the vents for the heat are placed facing into the room.

They haven't been marketed, as the are very expensive, and the ones for X-treme overclocking are very loud.

So where did you put your fans on your Corsair H105 radiator, on the bottom, like it comes ....or put them above your radiator Steve. blowing out if on bottom, blowing in if on top .....??? just wondering ...
