I was trying to get some prices on the i7-8700 3.2GHz and i7-8700K 3.7 GHz and I’ve Just been told by a seller that:

“There was a problem with the 8 series CPUs & Intel aren’t selling them yet till they resolve it”

And he’s advice is to “just get 7700k or 7740x as they’re very good”.

Anyone heard anything about this or is he trying to sell the stock he already has
I would find a better place to shop. Amazon has another batch coming in on Dec. 1. They had them for sale yesterday, so did Newegg.

Yes this was just someone I met over the weekend in a computer fair who promised to give me a better price than online sellers

INTEL 8700K 8600K COFFEE LAKE NOW IN STOCK AT FAIR PRICING! | Overclockers UK Forums

They are an affiliate of Caseking, where I ordered mine from.

Thanks mate; they’re selling the retail version of i7-8700K 3.7GHz at £428.99

    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/intel-core-i7-8700k-3.7ghz-coffee-lake-socket-lga1151-processor-retail-cp-63r-in.html

And the OEM version which I assume didn’t meet their overclocking expectations at £368.99

    https://www.overclockers.co.uk/intel-core-i7-8700k-3.7ghz-coffee-lake-socket-lga1151-processor-oem-cp-64c-in.html

Do you recommend buying an OEM version?

Or I should say is it advisable to buy an OEM?

I believe that oem just means it comes without a cooler, which is fine if you have an aftermarket cooler which is better anyway. It could also have a shorter warranty.

I didn't think any came with a cooler. It would be a waste of money to pay more for an Intel stock cooler. I have a box of them, never used. :)

    I’m not sure

If the difference is just the cooler it wouldn’t be a problem

The warranty is only for a year as opposed to 3 years

On some of their OEMs the warranty is only for 3 months

I did notice while I was looking into the x-series that the ones that have overclocked nicely are being sold as a bundle with a motherboard and ram

That's traditionally been the difference in Retail and OEM. I just didn't think they were still selling them with coolers. But, what do I know.

The warranties should be longer than that I would think. Is it the OC UK warranty or the Intel Warranty?

I'm not sure any Intel CPU's come with a stock coolers anymore. I know the last wo processors I bought - i7-6700K, an i7-7700K didn't come with one, and I'm somewhat sure my i7-4790K didn't come with one. All these were boxed retail.

That said, I pose the question? Anyone get a new CPU that actually came with a stock cooler? Perhaps AMD?
