Hi,
Yep sounds like a lot off BS to me :)
@bordi, being you are from the UK, you can check here: â–· Socket 1151 Coffee Lake | OVERCLOCKERS UK
INTEL 8700K 8600K COFFEE LAKE NOW IN STOCK AT FAIR PRICING! | Overclockers UK Forums
They are an affiliate of Caseking, where I ordered mine from.
Thanks mate; they’re selling the retail version of i7-8700K 3.7GHz at £428.99

And the OEM version which I assume didn’t meet their overclocking expectations at £368.99

Do you recommend buying an OEM version?
Or I should say is it advisable to buy an OEM?
I believe that oem just means it comes without a cooler, which is fine if you have an aftermarket cooler which is better anyway. It could also have a shorter warranty.
I didn't think any came with a cooler. It would be a waste of money to pay more for an Intel stock cooler. I have a box of them, never used. :)
I’m not sure
If the difference is just the cooler it wouldn’t be a problem
The warranty is only for a year as opposed to 3 years
On some of their OEMs the warranty is only for 3 months
I did notice while I was looking into the x-series that the ones that have overclocked nicely are being sold as a bundle with a motherboard and ram

I'm not sure any Intel CPU's come with a stock coolers anymore. I know the last wo processors I bought - i7-6700K, an i7-7700K didn't come with one, and I'm somewhat sure my i7-4790K didn't come with one. All these were boxed retail.
That said, I pose the question? Anyone get a new CPU that actually came with a stock cooler? Perhaps AMD?
