Just curious guys. How many of you sign up and pay up for the Intel Tuning Protection plan?

I have for the last several chips now. Saved my bacon on two different occasions to date. No questions asked, just sent me a new chip.

Looks like you will have a great rig there Cliff.

I see you bought one of those deBauer chips. Do let us know how that went :)

    Good luck on new system.
Thanks guys, yeah I got one presorted - delidded - liquid metal added - and the IHS ground flat & nickel plated for better contact with the heatsink.
Der8auer Pro Edition - Overclocker CPUs

As a special feature, the der8auer Core i7-8700K @ 5.0 GHz - Pro Edition is "delidded", ie the Integrated Heat Spreader (IHS) from Die. Subsequently, the thermal grease applied ex works is replaced by Conductonaut liquid metal thermal grease from Thermal Grizzly. This has a better thermal conductivity, so that 10 ° C to 20 ° C lower temperatures can be achieved under load.

Since the preassembled heatspreader is slightly concave, this is sanded off on the der8auer Pro Edition and then nickel-plated. This increases the contact area with the CPU cooler and the cooling capacity is slightly increased again. Before the heatspreader is reassembled, it gets an engraving with the der8auer logo as well as the pretested clock rate and the recommended core tension.

By grinding and nickel-plating the IHS, temperatures can be further reduced by 5 to 7 degrees Celsius, allowing the Pro Edition to reach approximately 15 to 27 ° C lower temperatures compared to the "floor" CPU.

That company sure sounds like they do excellent work Cliff. I never heard of that method before, don't think any company in the USA goes THAT Far when they delid your chip

I get a kick how google translates the page though. Instead of "stock" CPU it translates floor CPU, because stock or stockwerk(in german) is floor as in 2nd floor or 3rd floor....

@doorules I never have. I have planned on buying one with my last couple of CPUs but just never got around to it, I guess. Maybe I'll remember in time if I get another one.
It's a one time no questions asked replacement. Fry the chip with too much voltage, does not matter if you bought the plan. You get a replacement. Both times I used it I got excellent clocking chips as well.

Cliff you know I have my suspicions but I'm very curious to see how it does and how it compares to the "stock" 8700K. Will be looking once more and more people build and bench them here.

Regardless, the re-work done on the chip sounds impressive.

Don't worry, I hope to keep the Mighty Score Master Doug busy updating the Leaderboards for a while, once I get it built.

Although, I will run everything at stock out of box my first runs, and will try to post either temps or if I remember, open Aida64's stability test and just reset this page before a run, and then post a screenshot of it along with my scores:

Kind of like this(not one of my best runs, the VRMs get too warm and cause throttling)

Doesn't look bad for under $200.00 bucks Fatality has always been a good Baseline Board
