So with the two M2 ports in use you lose sata ports 1,5 and 6 correct?

This will leave ports 2,3, and 4 available. I assume the drive did not show up in disk management needing initialization?

You have tried I believe unplugging one of the working ssd's and using that port and cable, no luck there.

One other thing is to pour over the sata settings in bios, see if all is well there. If it worked before very funny that your new system will not see it. Then again all manner of funny things happens in windows from time to time.

Just throwing stuff out there my buddy. Sometimes the simplest things get by us, I know I am guilty of this all too often.

As you said at the end of the day you really don't need it but it is a mystery to be solved.

Actually port 1 should work as both M:2's are set to x4 PCIe, but I did try just using ports 2,3,4
I have even tried disconnecting it, booting into BIOS, shutting the port off, booting into windows, shutdown, than rebooting into BIOS turn port on, shutdown, reconnect drive, boot into windows, and----- nothing. Meh!
Too much work for what it's worth.

I thought with 2 M.2 ports you only lose ports 5 and 6. Maybe different boards have different configurations.

I also noticed, according to the Manual of my board that the 2nd M.2 port is for 'Storage Devices Only". My Apex only has 4 Sata ports so I imagine the lanes are pre configured for 2 M.2 drives.

My M.2 #1 is set to PCIe x4
My M.2 #2 is set to PCIe x4
So supposedly only SATA ports 5 & 6 are disabled( I even disabled them manually just to be sure, in the SATA settings).

OK, but with 2 M.2 devices, @doorules was right, you lost ports 1, 5 and 6.

I hear ya about not being worth the effort Cliff. It is just one those things that would drive me nuts, lol.

I would probably next take the drive to another rig and SE the drive. Try again in main rig. Just cause I can't let the drive win.

I didn't even know you could have it in two different modes, or what the difference is... yet.

either way, no way a drive beats me, lmao
