    Questions: What is the purpose of delidding a CPU? Do you just replace the thermal paste? Once it's delidded, can you mount a CPU cooler directly to the delidded CPU?

    Yes you replace the stock TIM between the CPU Die and the IHS with some exotic TIM (Liquid Metal) This in turn and I my case (Both the 6700K and the 8700K) dropped the temp about 20 degrees at load and brought the core temps close in line with each other. Remember if you do delid your CPU what ever warranty is left will be Gone for good.

    Linus doesn`t put nearly enough tim on the die, no wonder there was no temp difference.

    He should`ve pulled the heatsink off to see if the tim even spread. Fail
