Well no kidding.....but where I was going with this is; If he is not going to OC the CPU....liquid cooling is moot. Other than OC'ing.....liquid cooling has no viable use.

Worf, check out the H105. It has a thicker rad, and I think does a pretty good job. An added bonus is it uses no software.

How loud any CPU cooler, Air or water, depends on what fans you put on it. It is always a balancing act between Performance and noise. If you want performance, you have to put up with Noise. With radiators, static pressure is more important than the amount of air it pushes. I use the Noctua Industrial 3000 RPM fans. If you turn them down during normal use, they are not very loud at all. But, at 3000 RPMs they sound like a 747. However, while sounding like a 747, they put out more static pressure than any fan I know of and perform better than any fans I have ever tried. I never use the fans that come stock on any of the coolers I have tried.

Some of the high end air coolers can match coolers like the H100. But, that depends on if you want 3 pounds of metal hanging off your board and your ram will fit under them. None of the smaller air coolers will match the AIO coolers.

Thanks guys for your input, much appreciated.

I am going for the Kraken X62 due to the RGB. Will order in the next hour or so. Fans will come after (hoping some kind person will buy them for my Christmas).
