Sure, you can game on cheapos. But many gamers don't. My 10 year old games on PC, and has a Logitech Proteus G502 Mouse and a Corsair K65 RGB LUX mechanical keyboard. Think that combo was about $170 a year ago. I just gave him my Logitech G35 headset as i don't find time to game much anymore.

We like his mouse because we can customize profiles with faster and slower dpis for him and i. And we like the corsair keyboard as we use custom profiles to light up certain keys that we each use for our different games.

I prefer mechanical keyboards over anything else. I like mx blue and red switches. I prefer typing on them whenever i can.

Gaming keyboards often are backlit, some with RGB. Gaming mice also tend to have lighting options too.

Somebody questioned his "gaming keyboard, mouse, and headset" and said "gaming, whatever that means". With those peripherals it often means lights and more configurable options.
I'm aware of that, I've seem them. However, fancy lights and configurable keyboards aren't a necessity for gaming. Though they add to the aesthetics of the PC, they add no performance to games.

Anyway I don't have any lighted or fancy keyboard or mouse and I game just fine and miss nothing there.

It's an assumption you make. but it really isn't true. I, and many people I know, certainly don't use them.

I would think all that RGB stuff would drive up power usage that is one of the reasons i'd rather not have a Disco going on in my house besides that if you have Epilepsy then it would really be a bad idea

All those features look cool but like others have stated it's just for show nothing more

There will always be exceptions. Many gamers i know invest in their equipment to maximize their gaming experience. Whether its just replaceable keycaps, or n-key rollover, or macro capabilities, or adjustable weighted mice, etc.

In this users case, he needs something and seems to be staying reasonably cheap in his selections allowing him to maximize his budget. All of us based on our experiences will have suggestions on where to spend money. I myself would go for SSDs, over lights. But i do type constantly, so a mechanical keyboard for me is just an essential. Not so much for everyone.

I get it but The Op also needs to understand while he is shopping around and keep changing his mind he might as well stop being so tight and just put a little more into it

I hope he doesn't get offended $800.00 is fair but realistically unless you are buying last generation the current Gen will cost and that is what he needs to understand if he is looking to cut corners maybe he should be looking at last gen Intels like Haswell

Even though i know this isn't what he has his heart set on certain things cost and custom build will cost and that is the bottom line if he just added a extra $200 he can have exactly what he wants

Again though i would just look for a last gen rig to build or even hit ebay up and buy he could build something insane that way

And I'll argue the opposite so it's a matter of perspectives. And again, being on the tight budget the OP claims they want to stay on, I honestly can't see the need fancy lighted keyboards and mouse when the budget when there seems to be a lot of skimping on the essentials, but...

Anyway as I noted earlier, some of this was already discussed in another thread the OP started - Rate my build - Windows 10 Forums. This seems to be more of a duplicate of that one. And Admin already had to combine two different threads into that one as well.

I have to fully agree with this it makes no sense to be on a Budget and want something that is not relevant for the situation

It's like saying you want to buy a Cobra Mustang but you opt for the Ford Focus engine

He needs to stay on plain jane type stuff if he is not trying to spend money because those fancy things cost money

OP will spend $846 on his build per PCPartPicker.

If he absolutely cannot spend more than that and additionally cannot thereafter toss maybe $10 or $20 a month into a pot for later upgrades, then I could see why he would stay with that $846 build---he'd be expecting to live with that mouse/KB/headphones indefinitely--because he can't afford another dime.

On the other hand---if he CAN toss $10 or $20 a month into a pot for later upgrades, I'd say he might be better off going ultra cheap on the mouse/KB/headphones now and instead spend that money on more CPU/GPU/SSD.

Then, 6 months or a year from now, upgrade the mouse/KB/headphones if desired with that newly saved money.

It's just makes more sense and is much easier to upgrade peripherals 6 months later than it is to upgrade major internal components like CPU/drives/GPU that soon.

But maybe the OP refuses to spend a single dollar more over the next 5 years barring major failures. We don't know. Maybe he has a weakness for flashing lights.

And, he could decide after 6 months with the cheaper stuff, that he can live with the cheaper stuff much more easily than he thought.

Guess its what makes him happy. Lots of people go 16GB ram, but they may only need 8GB. However, they type 100% of the time on the keyboard. So, skimping there might be short sighted. Many enthusiasts base everything on benchmarks and raw performance. I cannot tell you how many fabulous PCs i have seen people build with absolutely terrible monitors. But i say, you look at the monitor 100% of the time, you should spend money on a good experience there. But others would argue the newest, fastest SSD is far more important than the monitor.

I just hope that the money spent on this keyboard and mouse is because that is what he wants, versus just a cheap version of what he thinks he wants. A better cheapo keyboard can far and away exceed a crappy built mechanical keyboard.

I like the way you think.....very logical and sound advice.
