That is some great points - and getting us to think some good questions: especially about the size required for the graphics card.

I looked at those Passmark CPU ratings.

They seemed to be based on multiple core performance. I doubt their relevance to gaming. Their number one CPU is a 20 core Xeon - not a popular choice among gamers.

I wonder about your son's desire for a 9000 Passmark score. Where did that requirement come from?

(Take the time to compare the individual item (item's) price to the combo deal and choose whichever is the best deal).

Side Note... If you go with (AMD) get the black edition CPU, There not restricted comes in very handy if ever want to over-clock it...

A Passmark score of 9000 is totally unrealistic. We have a Benchmarking section and there are some super (and expensive) builds there. One of the benchmarks is the Passmark Bench. There is only 1 9000 passmark score on it. No offense to anyone, but there is not an AMD CPU in the top 10. I'm only pointing out that a 9000 Passmark score is unrealistic and not even close to what is needed to play any game. There are some excellent gaming rigs that won't score much more than half that score.

As an example, this guy scored about half of the 9000 score. In the bottom left. click my system specs and look at his. It will play any game out there with very good framerates.

@essenbe, I thought he just wanted the CPU around 9k, not the overall rig. I might be mistaken.
