Good News: Packaged up and ready for collection back to amazon tomorrow.

Bad News: Replacement won't be available until 17th September.
Just got off the phone with EVGA as I was wondering why the current stock of 1000 watt G2's have an eco mode switch but mines doesn't. Turns out EVGA updated them in 2015 to include that switch. Mine was purchased in early 2014.

Anyway while on the phone I inquired about your issue and mentioned the long wait for a replacement. The tech person was a bit surprised by this and stated you should call them. Just passing along the info.

    Good luck.

    OK Update:

Due to the very long wait for the replacement I decided to just cancel the order and get a full refund yesterday through my amazon account.

This morning on my break, I called Amazon customer support to make sure all was OK with the collection and refund (when they receive the unit back.) and this was fine.

While checking my account on yet another break and tracking the pickup status of my unit to be returned (still not picked up as yet) I discover that Amazon had 16 Units in stock.

Thought about it while working and decided to give them another call. on a very unofficial break I did call amazon up and arraigned for a replacement. This was confirmed and all is good.

My defective G3 has now been pick up and will be with Amazon tomorrow and my New G3 has now been dispatched and will be with me tomorrow.

All is good in the world again lol

I have just sent the UK customer support an email explaining the problem.
Got this reply from EVGA this morning. Looks as if its a standard reply to the problem:

    Hello,

This is commonly known as coil whine; Coil whine is the vibration of the copper coils in a capacitor as power goes through it. Every capacitor has coil whine but most of them are inaudible to humans. Occasionally, a capacitor vibrates at a lower frequency in a range that we humans can hear it. It's not harmful to the power supply at all, so you don't have to worry about the power supply failing.

Normally it shouldn't be loud enough to be heard more than two feet away from the case. If the coil whine is loud enough to hear far away at idle or drowns out the power supply's fan under load, then it is too loud. There are a few things you could do to help reduce coil whine. If it happens under load, then you can try to enable V-sync. Having a lot of frames could cause excessive coil whine. Another option is to do an overnight burn-in of the card with a benchmark like Unigine Heaven. Let the benchmark run for 8-12 hours for a night or two. If you're lucky, the coil capacitors will settle and the coil whine will reduce down. You can also try using a different video card as that may cause the issue. Additionally, if you have another computer, I would recommend testing the power supply in that system to see if the issue follows the card.

If that doesn't help, or you don't want to do it, we can assist you with a RMA. Do keep in mind that this may not will fix your issue and that while we do test for coil whine issues, the other components in your system may cause more or less coil whine in your system.

    Regards,
    EVGA

    | have experienced coil whine before on several Graphics cards and an Enermax 430w PSU and this was not that. I could hear it over the TV and when I was leaving the room. The sound was like when a spark arcing across two points fast.
