Opinions Sought on Powerspec quality

If I were to DIY, I would want the same specs as the commercial build linked below. I'm not really a DIY person, so I'm wondering if that build itself would be reliable for performance and durability. The brand appears to be off the radar of the major reviewers.

Microcenter has about 25 stores in US. I just happen to live near one.

Looking at the specs it doesnt really say what Power Supply it runs. I would research the parts individually and see if you could DIY. There are plenty of youtube vids to help you with the build part.

I actually have been doing that, knowing that the store does custom builds. So I looked inside the floor model. The power supply is an EVGA SuperNova NEX750B, which is "bronze rated" (not gold). That CoolerMaster cpu cooler is considered a workhorse, but not necessarily for an overclocked i7 7700K. Those are the two components that concern me the most. Video card is MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming 8G and the memory is G.Skill DDR4 3200. The SSD is Samsung.

I don't intend to overclock unless absolutely necessary for my flight simulators. Beyond those, I'm not really a gamer. I also do music sequencing and occasional video editing. But since the OC potential is there, it'd be nice to feel secure these components can handle it.

The Powerspec is my plan B because my desktop has a bad boot drive apparently. I'm off to replace it, but I do want a better computer as well. If I can get back up with the present one, it'll buy more time to choose possibly better components.

I've watched those videos. Haven't seen one yet for two left thumbs.

The store will warrant for only 30 days, then it goes to the individual part warranties. The store offers an optional extended warranty where they'll handle any problem directly.

I've replaced my bad boot drive, reinstalled Win10, and am in process of restoring programs, etc. So I'm back to leisure mode on choosing components. Tedious but instructive. Tom's hardware and pcpartspicker seem helpful.

for that price they can upgrade you at there cost to the CoolerMaster Hyperx 212 EVO it has 2 fans. it's what i'm running on a amd fx 6300 and i rarely get above 20c. that's good considering amd does tend to run far hotter than intel.

That was my original plan, but they won't do it. More precisely, I'd have to buy the replacement component, and they'd put it in, but they wouldn't reimburse me the difference between that and the original component. That's why I've shifted to building from scratch.

As to cpu cooling, I've been thinking water cooled, but thanks for the model recommendation. I'll look into it.

^This. They will bork out your warranty for upgrading if it's not them and the hardware coming from them.

1500 you should be able to build something that makes you more than happy and save some money off that. personally i'd order my parts cause even with shipping it's cheaper than you'll get locally, and it really is pretty straight forward on building. good luck either way you decide to go.

no, most manufactures now a days allow for you to upgrade certain parts yourself without voiding the warranty. just make sure before you buy you know what you can and can not do.
