wondering if i max out ram and install ssd

For as little as $200 I upgrades my ASUS-U46SV to 8GB RAM and 512GB Samsung SSD. Now it is lighting fast. If I would have purchased a new laptop with 8GB RAM and a 512GB SSD, it would have cost me most likely well over $1000.

The battery for your laptop is also quite cheap, so I would go with the upgrade rather than buying a new computer.

Check my computer specs for further details. I am a computer enthusiast and I can confirm that my laptop is fast enough, and if you upgrade yours it will be as fast as mine if not even faster. I do programming and virtualization and this laptop is more than enough. If you are only going to surf the web and send a few e-mail, then your current laptop after upgraded parts will be closer to an overkill than being too slow.

That statement is very FALSE. I have an i5 and my friend has an i7 and in every test my computer beats his. Bigger number is not always better.

I concur with what everyone here has told you - the upgrade will be quite sufficient and you will be pleased. I even upgraded a Lenovo i3 with max RAM, SSD and new battery and it's lightning fast now. Battdepot.com is one source for replacement batteries; I've had good luck with them. And, yes, a bad battery can slow down a system - even cripple it permanently.

This completely depend on which Lenovo computer you compare the HP Elite Book with. If the only problem you have with your current Lenovo, is bad battery, insufficient RAM and slow HDD, then I'd rather upgrade that for a reasonable price, than purchase some unknown used device.

If RAM is very expensive or difficult to find for your Lenovo, then it means the laptop is so old that you'd be better off purchasing a brand new laptop. Does not have to be anything really expensive, as long as it is not from the cheapest consumer line. Those laptops are all terrible, no matter which brand you choose.

HP laptops are the easiest to find upgrade parts for in the future, and they have great hardware catalogs with part numbers. No other brand has as good hardware lists as HP. If going for a HP, then make sure you also check out what parts can be replaced and upgraded. From the high-end line meant for business you can replace everything. Same goes for all the major brands.

I am however an Asus fanboy, and love my current laptop. But because my requirements has changed drastically since the launch of Windows 10, I am not entirely sure which brand and model I will pick next. None of them seem to please me 100%, are too difficult to get in my country or are priced way too high for their real value. ;-)

lol, my Asus laptop battery just died. I love my Asus so much that I buy a new battery, upgrade RAM to 16GB and later I stick a 2 or 4TB SSD in it (got 500GB SSD now) and put the old one in DVD drive bay using my HDD adapter.
