Why would you recommend Haswell or Broadwell over anything like Skylake or Kabylake? Im not calling you out, Im genuinely curious. Do they have some sort of advantage?
The Haswell & Broadwell E processors mentioned are 6 & 8-core processors while the current line of Skylake and Kaby lake processors are quad-core.

Regarding Photoshop usage, there's not a lot to be gained (or lost) by using or not using multi core processors - Adobe Photoshop CC Multi Core Performance. In short, for the budget mined, this is where you can save your money and put it elsewhere with regards to buying or not buying a 6 or 8-core processor.

I'd probably go for more core's than speed, but things aren't so cut and dry here. There are too many variables to say whether more cores or more raw speed is beneficial to Photoshop. Are you multitasking? How are you processing your files? RAW/Jpeg? Layers? Size of files? Filters?, etc..

    .
I have 13MB raw files and so most of the work in Camera Raw and only go into Photoshop when needed.
I shoot newbie models only at this time so I spend about 30 seconds per image editing.

I am planning on getting the FX-6300 thanks to all the advice and now have to pick a new motherboard. For that I want to make sure it is W10 ready as I am seeing some are still not.

I suggest waiting for the 1600x. You're investing in a dead platform.

My main use for my PC is Photoshop for large batches of model images and using Dragondictate.

I am getting ready to build a new PC and want an AMD processor but should I go for more cores or more speed?
If you are just pure Content i would grab the 1700x it would suit pretty much what you want to do without shelling too much

Or you can go Intel and get a 6850k 5930k 6800k 5820k pretty much within the same price range with 40 PCI-E lanes for more bandwith for M.2 or GPU SSD PCI-E and Capture cards with the exception of 6800k and 5820k

    The 6800k and 5820k have 28PCI-E lanes

That would be a backwards buy at this stage of the game i am afraid to say

You would end up getting pissed off at yourself and end up paying more after all is said and done do yourself a favor and get current gen hardware you will thank us in the end

FX PLATFORM IS DEAD TO RIGHTS AND WAS THE LAUGHING STOCK OF AMD FOR SIX YEARS

Yup...the FX series processors should have died years ago. I really wouldn't waste my money on one of them.

I think an FX wouild be a great improvement since right now I am on a Dell from 2007 with Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600.

To put it another way. What would you buy for $300 (MB, CPU, 8GB RAM) for good performance?

I'd try to find an off-lease refurb Intel rig with an i7 3rd / 4th gen CPU before I'd do that.

The reason we are telling you this is because with content creation you need something that will actually be on the level or better than a core duo technically the IPC on that duo core is still b etter than a six core FX chip

seriously if you do not want to spend i would look into at least 4th or 5th gen someone even mentioned 3rd Gen anything is much b etter than what you are looking at

    What is your Budget ?

In that case if all you got is $300 i would start looking for the highest chip you can use in that Mobo and better ram but even then still no good

I would suggest putting $300.00 more to this and get a AMD Ryzen Rig actually they have the Ryzen 5 it maybe cheap enough for you to build on $300 budget the only thing is you would need new ram DDR4

I can say if you have most of the parts you would only need a cpu board mem also a case i doubt that Dell case would work for a aftermarket build you need to take that into consideration as well
