Thinking of moving to NVidia

OK, so I’ve been thinking about dumping my Sapphire (AMD) R9 Tri-X Fury card in favor of NVidia’s 1080 card. The Fury's been problematic off and on and needed a customized BIOS update to fix some of its issue. I also don’t think I’m getting the best performance out of my system with the R9 card installed.

That said, having never owned or looked at NVidia’s cards, are there any “NVidia” issue I should be aware of with regards to their cards & drivers?

And BTW, if I do move to NVidia, I’ll be going with EVGA as I like both their styling (just as I do with Sapphire branded cards) and from what I hear, their excellent customer service.

Thoughts? Oh, and system specs are up to date if you're curious.

EVGA has very good customer service. As far as NVdia issues there have been some people with driver issues but my experience has been great with team green. You have a great build, a 1080 will run great for you.

Things should be interesting soon as AMD is coming out with a new GPU, and NVidia will be releasing a 1080ti

Drew, I always use EVGA, so good choice in that. I don't think there are any particular problems with Nvidia, or I have not noticed any.

I may suggest you consider waiting until March when AMD release their new cards. There may be some price adjustments afterward, plus rumor has it that Nvidia will release a 1080 TI at that time as well. Those things should certainly cause some price adjustments, I would think. Just my 2 cents.

I started my PC gaming on a AMD cards & had nothing but trouble with them crashing my games out ect, my first Nvidia card was (& still have boxed up in storage) a GT 730 & even at that level I could see how good they was 9no crashing & excellent smooth motion to them), I now use a GTX 1050 Ti which is really unbelievable I ran MSI Afterburner when the card was set to Gaming Mode & it was boosting to 1800Mhz.

You will not use an AMD GPU (for now) again after using any Nvidia card I think.

First off not looking to get a 1080 TI given the previous asking TI prices. That's out. I thought I'd lost my mind when I spent $650 on the Sapphire card!. Previous high was $400 at most. Anyway one of the reasons I'm looking to jump ship from AMD is because of the way we got screwed over with artifacting issues on the R9 Fury/Fury X. See this thread here (post 909) sums up my feelings.

But yeah, it probably would be a good idea to wait and see if the new releases drive the 1080 prices down. And despite all the BS rip off job by AMD with the Fury, it would probably be a good idea to see what they release as well. Regardless, whichever way I go, drivers will be key. Don't need things screwing up my photography workflow. I've not read any NVidia issues here, but...

Anyway I'm in no hurry to buy, just want to get a feel on this. Thanks.

Drew, you caught my point about waiting. I think when AMD releases their new cards and Nvidia releases the 1080 TI (if that happens) we may see prices drop some, hopefully a lot.

I guess occasionally all cards have driver issues, but it is not very often with Nvidia, and I can say I have never had any driver problems. (fingers crossed). That was the main issue that caused me to switch from AMD to Nvidia several years ago. The Nvidia drivers were more mature and had very few problems. I've never wanted to go back. Just my 2 cents.

Yeah Steve but the problem like you with NVidia, I never had driver issues with AMD. On the other hand I've never run dual card setups where most drivers issues showed. I just didn't like the slow response to an expensive problem. Anyway I've been with AMD since I left 3Dfx. Never ever gave NVidia a look, but now it seems times have changed and I need to look at other options.

Oh, and I don't have a problem waiting. By than I'll probably be ready to make a move anyway.
