Excellent 2 choices - with or without a stock wraith style cooler:

AMD Ryzen CPUs Will Be Available With New Stock Coolers | PC Perspective

FYI - solarstarshines you said :

AMD might be aiming a little too high but meh what ever i just noticed they wanted to go by cpu score

Have not Intel users been bragging about their benchmarks for the last 5 years you can not say that because all your benchmarks are now lower !

I have ran both Platforms for years bottom line Intel has been the Champion for over 20 while AMD shows up once in a while it's not Bragging in a way it's facts people went to AMD for cheaper pricing but they fell off with the FX line that is what really messed them up

Phenom chips were pretty awesome but that was about a 4 year run AMD really never took intel by force they just surprise them once in a while without a doubt these chips look good but what's going to happen in 3 years is AMD able to keep up or was this their last push to get even ?
Like many Intel users stated they would love to see AMD rise but seriously been about 7-8 years of being in Limbo that is a hard comeback being that many years not being able to compete has made AMD what they are not anyone esle but them

I used to use their GPU's all the time but after i ran into many problems with ULPS ultra low power state issues AMD turned me off i had GPU's going whacky and AMD couldn't even fix it by the way that was the HD7970 series that is when i made the switch back to Intel and Nvidia

My thoughts the last couple of days as I've looked at Ryzen benchmarks have been along those lines; AMD shows up now against Intel, then falls behind. Later they show up against Nvidia, then fall behind. Maybe they should pick one and put all their resources into it. Trying to compete with both Intel and Nvidia may be too much strain upon monetary and intellectual resources.

That aside, Ryzen looks to be good and that'd be good for we consumers.

It's a reality many AMD users fail to realize and the soul reason is they can't tell they don't have performance unless you benchmark it

AMD is good for casual users but when it comes to real time task it's pretty painful even when encoding dvd's it was painfully slow rendering and combining video would take a couple hours with a FX8350

There would be times when my Dad was still alive would call me when he was rending video's for church asking why it's taking so long even his core duo was faster i am not kidding !

I’ve never built an AMD so don’t have experience with the platform but in light of what solarstarshines says about every day use I fail to see how Intel could be called “laggy,” at least in comparison with what AMD has produced these last several years.

I just built a Skylake and like it a lot so I have no regrets, and I did not build a Kaby Lake because of past history with the newest motherboards seeming to have a higher rate of DOAs until things get sorted out. I didn’t want to deal with that and Skylake’s been out for awhile and settled down so that was my deciding factor on just what to build. It’s not possible to keep up with technology anyway, few have the monetary resources for that.

I just checked the Canadian price (gouging) and the 1800X is $654. Not quite the aggressive pricing I was looking for. I was hoping that the price would be significant enough to give the hyperthreaded quads a run for their money as well as the Intel 8-cores. Still cheaper than Intel.

If it truly performs as well as they say next to Intel CPUs, I might just have to pick one up, though it probably won't be the 1800X. Too rich for my blood, unless it's on a wicked sale.

Any word on what the mobos cost? I'm looking at ASUS, MSI and Gigabyte.

Just as a general comment to your comment. I agree. My i7-4790k at work just screams compared to my FX-8350 at home. The FX-8350 is essentially the same architecture, a quad with multithreading, but it really falls flat in the area of compiling and graphics rendering (and I have a better GPU in the home system than I do in the office. I also can't find an AMD AM3+ board with a PCIe 3.0 bus. They only have 2.0 busses the last time I looked. No wonder my GPU benchmarks are terrible. It's not just my CPU's fault.). To be honest, I'm distinctly unimpressed. However the FX-8350 was less than half the cost of the Intel chip, so I guess I can't complain too loudly.

I hate to be this person depending on what intel cpu there is no lag only lower cpu's offer that if taxed beyond their capabilities

There has never been a issue with a high end Intel cpu except the heat spreader now if your talking Coreduo and stuff like that what would you expect it's not a good CPU for gaming anymore that was like 2007

It's not time to weep if you know Intel they will probably refresh again and change some things to compete with AMD lower scale chips

Anyway you have to learn about how to use it properly clock speeds voltage etc ...if your not a overclocker then it's a moot point about performance

As AMD in the past has been very hot now if they have a ceiling like their older Brother 62c Max temps if they can get it beyond that temp wall to 100c max then hey they may become king

Keep in mind AMD has a lot of good things and bad things most of it is you can't overclock their GPU's anymore anything beyond a few mhz it crashes it's not always about beating another top end chip

Variables my friend take into account if you can't afford to get the real performance you seek it will put egg on your face AMD when i used to use them took a crap load of good cooling to get somewhere hopefully they changed that

As a overclocker or someone who does it for fun i was very dis pleased with a AMD gpu recently that couldn't get 25 mhz over stock great prices but limited hardware
