Yeah, overclocking to extremes is always going to require more cooling.
I get peace and quiet, hence reason I keep fans to a minimum. My intel stock cooler is always quiet. Loudest part of my pc is mechanical keyboard and mouse clicks. If there were no lights on my case, you wouldn't know if the pc was on or off.
I am also looking to downsize a bit on my case. Currently using Antec P180 and it's too big to fit where I want it. Something like sons Antec 302 will get the job done.
Well said Steve :)Yes, I am a charter member of that crowd. Idoused to do a new build several times a year. I have slowed way down lately. I just don't have the money any more, but I still have the desire. I haven't done a new build in 2 years now. Somewhat of a record for me. I will admit I have been looking lately, but I doubt I will build anytime soon. It's really a hard habit to break.
For people like me, need is not even a consideration. If I considered need, I would still be on my i7-3770K build, which I still have and is still running quite well.
My approach is a 3, maybe 4-year cycle in which I do a complete upgrade - CPU, MB, RAM, PC case, if necessary. In between those cycles I might do minor upgrades such as GPU, hard drives/SSD drives, maybe RAM. This all helps to keep the major upgrade costs down when I enter my upgrade cycle. My old parts are then moved to my backup system, and the parts from the backup system are moved to yet another system.
Some build out of necessity, others out of want. I’m in the want category and make no apologies to anyone other than my wallet

You assume everyone who builds high performance systems and overclocks are running jet engines for fans. This would be completely wrong. They do make efficient quiet fans and cooling systems where less is more - more efficient, more powerful... more quiet.
If you look at both my systems here, you'll see I have a minimum of fans. Both my main and backup system only has 4 fans (excluding the GPU & PS fans) - 2 case fans, 2 radiator fans. My systems are very, very quite system. Maybe even quieter than yours

I totally understand that. My sons case has 2 case fans, a 120mm in the upper back and a 140mm top exhaust fan. Both are 2 speed Antec fans with a low and high switch. I have both set on low speed, and I have them running all of the time rather than letting them spin down to keep air moving. But his case has room for 4 more case fans, but I'm not running any other case fans simply because more is more air. If I needed more air flow, I know that I could add some nice fans which generate little to no noise.
Wasn't saying anybody is wrong, I'm just an enthusiast who rides a different train. You can still be super passionate and interested in hardware and running a nice system, without requiring as many bells and whistles. That's all :). It's all good.
It's quite possible your fans/system are quieter than mine. I have the stock coolers, both on the CPU, and in the case. They are more than adequate at getting the job done I need done, and they are doing it practically silently.
No, you didn't. And yeah, we all have our way of doing things, nothing wrong there. I'm merely clarifying some vague misconceptions as not everything is about "bells and whistles". It really is about performance. The fact that you view some as "bells and whistles" doesn't make it so for the rest of us. There is a reason to the madness, even if you don't see it, or agree with it. That's always my point.
Anyway we're cool. And there's nothing wrong with being practical - we all try to be; just in different ways :)

Yes, Drew the 1080 TI. If you notice in the picture the word TIME has the TI in Bold. Sort of like Nvidia refuses to make any statements about the TI, but seems to be leaving teases.
