For my sons build, I just did a Core i5-6500 Skylake. Did an EVGA GTX1060 video card. My son is 9 so this does everything he needs it to. Heck, I'm playing Battlefield 4 maxed out and getting 100+FPS.

Only reason I want potential for more threads is that I like to run labs in VM's. It's not abnormal for me to have 4+ VM's running in a lab to test something out.

I also don't gravitate to any of the high end CPUs, because a $300 CPU today and a $1000 CPU today, will both be outdone by a $200 CPU in about 5 years time. I'd rather save cash today, and build a new rig sooner, and hand the old machine down to a kid or family member, or have a test box. (although with VM's I rarely test on physical hardware anymore).

Yeah my 7 almost 8 year old is using a AMD machine but i think she'll keep that in her room the specs of her machine are in my specs sheet below she has a pretty powerful rig for AMD

So i went with this setup after debating about Ryzen performance price yada yada

    I went with a

    Fatality X99 Chipset

    Intel 6850K

    32GB GSkill TridentZ 3466mhz

    Corsair H115i Cooler

    Intel M.2 512GB 600P Series

Seagate Barracuda Hybrid drive 2TB for Steam

WesternDigital 1TB from my Dads old system

    EVGA 1000watt G2 80+ Gold

Phanteks Etho Pro Same case as my 6700k build

I have two Optical drives i have no need to Buy those it would be pointless

Yes 1080's will be going into this build i plan on buying a 1070 for the 6700k later i still have a GTX 970 i can use
Looks like a nice build, only thing I would mention is the stock fans that come with your Corsair H115i Cooler, are on the loud side, lots of us bought replacement fans, and didn't use the stock ones. Then again maybe you don't have any concern on the sound of those fans. I replaced mine with lighted Corsair (Quiet Edition) ones. :)

I didn't mention it but i have a few aftermarket SP and AF fans didn't put it on the list because it's a common practice of mine

In benching on my board, I can discern no difference between 16 x 16 and 16 x 8. Now this is benching and not gaming and also not 8 x 8 so not sure what difference that would make if any.

That is why i am debating would it make any difference going from 40 lanes to 28 with just a slightly lower chip

Pretty much what i got is a 5930x so i mean you think i would take a hit or nah

cause the video clearly showed gaming performance but it was a 9 frames higher but depends on the game newer titles might be the same all around
