Rotten luck to be sure. With that upgrade maybe all for the best in the end. Awesome looking and just great spec wise for the new 270 chipset.

That is a bad run of luck on the mobos. Like pparks1 I've never had a DOA mobo although the first system I built in '98 had a voltage problem that a setting in the BIOS allowed to be ignored. Still sent the board back for another which was a two week turnaround and the reason I have bought the principle parts from local shops ever since with the one exception being the new build as Microcenter was out of the 6700K just after the first of the year so had to order it online.
Hope you get a good mobo next time.
Two DOA's in a row? Not acceptable IMHO. Dude, did you call Asus Support when you were trying to fire the system up? I would be more than interested to hear what they say or suggested.
When I installed my Maximus VIII Formula MB everything went fine, but I didn't like the fact that the Aura MB lighting stayed on when you turn off the PC. Asus has a reputation for high quality products but many would say lower quality tech support. But I called them anyway, got through pretty quickly and got an answer.
If your third board DOA's please give them a call. I'd be more than interested to hear what they say.

@specialkone, I'm sure Doug is at work, but I can tell you he did call Asus. They told him to RMA the board to them. I think the better option was to send it back to Amazon. Been there, done that with Asus.
I did speak with Asus, the said the board wasnt getting power. Even the q code leds didnt light up. The wanted me to rma for repair. Like Steve said, i went the amazon route. Sent in for a refund and will try the code model next
