Well guys, my corner desk space is going to need to be surrendered in June. My wife just told me that it's going to need to be replaced by a crib. That is one sure way of waking me up this morning. (We have been trying for three and a half years.)

Hey Man, congratulations. I always feel for people who have to try for long periods of time, especially when others manage to accidentally fall into pregnancy.

Sorry, I didn't answer your question because I thought it was rhetorical. We were discussing somebody building a $12,000 PC, right. Clearly that's not the "average", or we wouldn't be bothering to discuss it here.

No, I do not have a lot of friends and family who use that kind of storage. I know of a couple of coworkers running arrays in the 40TB range for their home data environments. Obviously they are in the minority, as would the person here who builds a $12000 system. Clearly that's far outside the realm of normal users.
LOL - I see you edited your post :)

Well, some people have insane amounts of video content downloaded that they keep. I work with a few guys who have enterprise SAN's running in their homes with 48 hard drives installed.

Edit: Notice in the above I said "some" people have insane amounts of video content. I did not say that "average" people need massive amounts of data. I'm unsure if they need 80TB, or 60TB, or 91.3TB as I don't know what they collect. But if they want all of their music stored in FLAC, and they download every movie and TV show they care about, it's entirely possible they could need something that seems ridiculous.
And I mean you no harm it's just the way you put things at times. We're cool though

    Congratulations man!

BTW, my daughter had a baby boy on Saturday (Oct 14). This makes me a two time grandpa since I also have a one year old grandson as well.
