Well I just built this rig maybe 11 months ago, and I agree with sygnus21, already got a lot of money in this rig, and it runs just fine.
Maybe in another year or two I'll build another one. :)
Im in the same situation, only been 8 months for me. I will hold out a while, quite happy with my current rig

    Hi @essenbe
I sure wouldn't go for a 7900x I can't beat my existing 5930k benchmarks on the same 1080 classified not even running it at 4.6 Mhz the 5930k was never over 4.5 Mhz
15 day return for i9-7900x expired monday

I suppose we can all see how @AddRAM 's does with a 1080ti pretty soon.
@ThrashZone, Welcome to the wolrd of 'living on the bloody edge'. A lot of drivers for your platform are not matured yet and a lot of the benchmarks don't even recognize your board or CPU. It will take some time to catch up. At least that's the way it usually works. When I got this rig, I went through the same stuff. But, on benchmarks that use multi threaded CPU, there's no way you can't beat your previous scores.

That 7900x should be stomping any 5930k. From what I have seen the 7900's are good clockers. Certainly better than my 6950x, and I have a good 6950x.

As essenbe says you are either having driver issues with something or just dont maybe have that 7900x stable, or some other component stable. No way that 6 core runs with that 10 core.

About the only benchmark that improved was skydiver @54k on win-7 it was even higher @59k
Cinebench wasn't terrible but everything else has been
I suppose I could flash the bios but I believe I'm only one version back from the shipped one 0503 :/

    Hi,
    Done 0802 :)
Bad news is macrium reflect flaked out and I lost all my system images
When it flaked out I was trying to restore one and it borked the ssd's install as well and errors every attempt to restore 2 prior made images of the win-7 x299 I swapped out
Reinstalling win-7 now just finishing up updates... :/
I believe the latest rollup is to blame for reflect 6 and 7's dysfunction

Did you update MR and rescue USB/disk ? There were flurry of updates for it lately, few times twice a day.

    Hi Mike yes,
I had 2 newly created recovery cd's with reflect 6 both failed to do anything and yes each time there were updates to the winpe is why I had 2 plus a few older ones as well.
    Reflect 7 I had 1 usb and 1 cd
Formatted my 2nd win-7 sdd a little too soon after getting the other in order after swapping the motherboard....

When you made your MR images, do you always make sure MR's Verify is clicked ON ?? Just wondering. Never had any MR image fail on me .....yet.

You could also try to verify backups.
