I am even getting £370 for my 6700K, Asus Z170-A Prime and 16GB Corsair RAM which my upgrade is costing me just shy of £360 (£359.47). Not to bad. This is the same person that bought my Zotac 1070 Amp Extreme (Nessie's Grandmother)

Look at the absurdities going on here. Reminds me of the Vega 64 launch.

    LOL!

It takes time to manufacture these chips, get orders, ship them and put them on the shelves. Just because the papers and specs has been released, does not mean that Intel has already produced millions of these CPUs, ready to be delivered. That would be bad business.

Small batches which will be adjusted with demand is the way to go. That is how all chip and hardware makers does it. :)

    BUT!
Guaranteed to OC, and no lottery:)

Of course it will depend on your power delivery, number of phases, and most importantly your cooling.

at least they add the silver heatspreader and*liquid metal opposed to some parties*in the market that just bin them
The cost is so high, because they have professional overclockers that check and OC each chip, pluse the extras.
Although, one problem with liquid metal as opposed to a good TIM, is you need to redo it more often(at least that's what I have read).

Intel Processors order online | CASEKING

    der8auer Core i7-8700K @ 5,2 GHz - Ultra Edition
    The Core i7-8700K @ 5.2 GHz - Ultra Edition at a glance:

    advanced Per Ultra
    pretested: Yes Yes Yes
    decapitated: Yes Yes Yes
    IHS honed: No Yes Yes
IHS from silver: No No Yes
    Laser engraving: Yes Yes Yes

    • 6 core processor (12 threads with HT)
    • Guaranteed OC clock speed of 5,200 MHz!
    • "Decapitated" for better cooling performance
    • IHS from silver (99%)
    • 24 months King Mod warranty included
    • 12 megabytes of L3 cache
    • Dual-channel interface
    • Support for DDR4-2.666 (Dual Channel)
    • AVX2 Extended Vector Extensions (Advanced Vector Extensions)
    • AES Encryption (Advanced Encryption Standards)
    • Only compatible with mainboards with Intel chipset of the 300 series!

    The Core i7-8700K @ 5.2 GHz - Ultra Edition
is a pre-selected Intel Core i7-8700K CPU with a standard clock frequency of 3.7 GHz, but its maximum overclocking clock is at a
    possible 5.2 GHz
    - and that for all six cores! The only requirement for this is a corresponding high-end platform as a worthwhile subset based on the Intel Z370 chipset.

In order to evaluate the maximum clock values of the booted CPUs and to ensure their stability, the analyst tests each individual copy for at least one hour under Prime95 26.6 with 1344K. This massive load factor ensures that each individual processor is thoroughly pre-tested and maintains the cycle stability, which is why we compensate for the loss of the manufacturing warranty by overcoming the manufacturing margin by means of our own
    24-month King-Mod warranty
    .

On the packaging of each pre-tested CPU, the core voltage specified by us and necessary for the stable OC operation is indicated, whereby a tolerance range of approximately +/- 30 mV is provided depending on the power supply of the mainboard. In order to protect the silicon, however, the maximum core voltage is at most 1.4V. In case of questions about the overclocking, the King-Mod service is also available by e-mail after the purchase.
The der8auer Ultra Edition CPUs for overclockers

    As a special feature, the
Core i7-8700K @ 5.2 GHz Ultra Edition is
"headed", ie the Integrated Heatspreader (IHS) is removed from the Die. Subsequently, the thermal grease applied from the factory is replaced by
    Conductonaut liquid metal thermal grease
from Thermal Grizzly. This has a better thermal conductivity, so that lower temperatures can be achieved under load 10 ° C to 20 ° C.

A further 8 to 12 ° C lower temperatures are made possible by replacing the standard Integrated Heatspreader (IHS) with a
    heat spreader made of silver
. The der8auer Ultra Edition is the absolute
    non plus ultra
in terms of CPU refinement and offers the best overclocking performance.

By mixing and exchanging the standard Integrated Heatspreader (IHS) with an IHS made of silver, a total of 18 up to 32 ° C lower temperatures compared to the "floor" CPU can be achieved.

That's still absurd and I see no reason to pay that much for a 8700K. But hey, it's a way to make a buck and I'm sure some will sell. Anyway I no longer overclock so my feelings differ from most who do. Anyway if that's what it takes these days, good luck.

What do they do with the 8700K's that won't do 5 GHz? Oh, that's right, there aren't any.

Yeah, I was also under the impression the 8700K's could do 5 gig without special treatment. But...
