For every one planning a new build with the new 6 core coffee lake chips, if you are going to overclock them, you might want to find out what the power draw is, at 5GHz, and see if your current PSU will be enough, Remember 6 cores, and more Vcc pins(Vcore pins).
    Just a thought anyhow:)

    Brink,
From my reading it comes down to whether gaming is your #1 concern. If so, I believe the 8700K is the better route.

For everyone else, in my consideration of a new build, I'm looking at the Intel Core i7-8700k and the Core i5-8600K. My last few builds have used Gigabyte mobo's. I've also used Asus boards in the past.

Does anybody have a strong recommendation between Gigabyte, Asus, or MSI for a new Z370 mobo for a new Coffee lake build?
I use Gigabyte Gpu's the Mobo's let me down i went back to my Ace in the hole Asrock been solid since Pentium and mmx days

Also most Asus offerings are more feature Rich

I'm a big fan of Asus boards.

Of course the wife is already having a complete meltdown. She said "you are absolutely not building another desktop computer. You made me wait years for my new floors and we just did them and you claimed we didn't have the money for it. You are supposed to be using your sons computer. You aren't getting any new computer, period."

Sounds like i have an uphill battle coming.

I usually win as i make more of the income and i pay for everything. Thats why i bitch about the money, because i know it comes solely out of my account. And i had to do a new furnace, new ac, new water heater, new roof, and all new floors this past 12 months.

What would be the purpose of going from a Z270 or even a Z170 to a Z370 ??

The only logical step I would take is upping to a X board if you already own a Z170, Z270 etc

The new 8th gen core chips REQUIRE a z370 board. You cannot put a new chip into a 170 or 270 board.

I never said you could, they share the same socket, but that's as far as it goes.
