I haven't done a build since 2009 for myself, so this will be a substantial upgrade. Looking at
    • Core i7-8700
    • Corsair H115i AIO cooler.
    • MSI Z370 mobo
    • G.Skill 16GB DDR4 3000
    • HAF H500p case
    • Samsung 960 Evo 1TB NVMe drive
    • Seasonic 850W fully modular PSU
    • EVGA GTX1080 SC
    • Windows 10 Pro Retail
    • 27" Acer Predator 2560x1440 IPS monitor.

Eventually would like to add 16 more GB of RAM for VM's, and would like to add 1 more TB of SSD space. But both of those can come later.

My birthday is next week and christmas is coming, so I'm hoping to convince the wife and kids to just save money on other gifts so I can build myself a PC instead.

Boy, you seem to be pulling out all the stops. Seems you've been hit by the upgrade bug bad. Nice build there

It's what happens when you haven't replaced your desktop since 2009 and your laptop is a 2013 MacBook Pro. I'm jumping forward nearly 10 generations on my desktop CPU :)

Sounds like a good Christmas present to yourself. My rig is about 3 years old, I think. It's due for retirement. Semi retirement at least.
Yeah, I was going to get the RX Vega64 but I can't see going over $200 above MRSP. "Hoping" prices will drop by then; also different design configurations will be out by then.

    Put together my proposed upgrade:
    Attachment 156847

I am selling my parts for £350 so that is a cost of £391.69 for this upgrade.....

I Think this is worth it.
    Hi,
Sweet @worf105 Not sure about the vengeance line but the dominator line the C15 is better than the C16 but heck you know more about ram than I :)
@essenbe yes that darn original x99 ddr4 was freaking expensive :)

You guys and my wife will all be saying i don't need it. You guys will technically know that i don't :)

Feel free to give me all the crap you want. Its ok. Especially if i talk about upgrading anything inside of it in the next 3 or 4 years.

It will be a few months before i invest. I think the haf case is not available now until sometime mid november.
