This guy with the new i7 8550U.

    Inspiron 13 5000 2-in-1 laptop | Dell United States

The 8550U is a true quad core. I also ordered a 256GB SSD and 16GB of RAM for her.

Intel Coreâ„¢ i7-8550U Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.00 GHz) Product Specifications

Not bad for about $1K. I will be replacing my MacBook and iPad Pro with it. With change to spare so I'm going to upgrade my Ryzen with a new GTX 1070.

I recent BIOS update finally fixed my virtualization issues and my sound card. It's nice to have my system running normally finally. I was getting discouraged.

GOSH! ...that Dell device is cheap. I like the CPU. Very low TDP for true 4-core CPU.

Wow, just looked at the MSI Z370 Godlike Gaming mobo and it looks spectacular. Sadly, I don't budget $500 for my mobo.

I saw at least one reviewer say it isn't close to worth it. They give you some sleeved cables and stuff to make you think it's worth it.

    Brink,
From my reading it comes down to whether gaming is your #1 concern. If so, I believe the 8700K is the better route.

For everyone else, in my consideration of a new build, I'm looking at the Intel Core i7-8700k and the Core i5-8600K. My last few builds have used Gigabyte mobo's. I've also used Asus boards in the past.

Does anybody have a strong recommendation between Gigabyte, Asus, or MSI for a new Z370 mobo for a new Coffee lake build?

I suppose if you need 16 threads, then go with the 7820. Otherwise I'd look at pricing between the two and go there. The other factor would be motherboard - which has the better "tech"? And what of pricing for what you get?

Personally, I'd go with the motherboard that's more feature and future proof and let in then decide my Processor. That's me.
