OldMike; looks like your new bios (hyperthreading fix) came out today. Still waiting for mine.

    Attachment 149502

ROG MAXIMUS VIII HERO ALPHA | Motherboards | ASUS USA
Thanks for posting this. It prompted me to check to see if I had any BIOS updates for my board and, sure enough, new BIOS with a hyperthreading fix was available. Flashed quickly and painlessly. The fact that a lot of boards have backup BIOS these days makes it much less nerve wracking than it used to be.

    Who need the 7960X?
It's all about the Pentiums Baby!

    I like this part:

My new computer has the clocks that rocks, but was obsolete before I opened the box!
You say you had your desktop a week?
Throw it away man, it's an antique!
And ya'll know the since the middle of 2016, with NVidia vs AMD, and Intel vs AMD, this has never been more true

Glad you and OldMike have the update with no issues. I believe the entire free world has a hyperthreading updated bios except Asus Formula owners. For some reason Asus' Formula is always the last MB to get a bios update. Must be rocket science involved with additional LED features.

Not true, MSI owners are still waiting, and waiting, and....

I went ahead and filled the form and asked the question, I will post back as soon as I receive a response from MSI.

Ok here is the reply from MSI

08/01/2017 "Hello Mr. Barnes unfortunately we don't have an exact time table for this update, most people wont experience any issues regarding this bug but I do know that we are working on providing updates for our boards."

Sorry to hear that Cliff. What you should do is whine about slow bios updates as much as I did. Look at this:

Makes me happy but I feel for you. But at least you can claim to be the only MB owner in the free world not to have the update.

Well if the Asus' Formula owners are last then we Hero Alpha owners must be 2nd to last. :)

The last BIOS update gave me a slight boost in benchmarking, so when a new update comes out, I'll make a thumbdrive backup of my BIOS OC Profiles(I still have a copy of the current BIOS 7971 v.AE).

And if the new one screws with benchmarking negatively, I can always flash back and reinstall the current profiles.

I am not too worried about getting the new BIOS, as it seems this hyperthreading problem doesn't effect me in how I use my PC.

It could also be, Intel published the new microcode in May this year, and my last BIOS update was also in May, and they just didn't list it with the other fixes.
From my read me for version AE:
    7971vAE
    Release Date
    2017-05-03

    File Size
    6.59 MB

    Description
    - Improved NVME device compatibility.
    - Improved memory compatibility problem
