    Speaking of multiple cores...

Yes a gamer does not need a gazillion cores, but I can see many places where more cores is better. I need a lot of cores for software development (not the development part but for compiling), and I also need many cores for virtualization. Then there is also some simulation computing that benefit a lot from multiple cores and multiple GPUs in vectorized calculations....and the list goes on and on...

...but yes, the Average Joe does not need all those gazillion cores, not for normal desktop usage nor for gaming. But that could change soon...as people were saying 10 years ago...

...so how soon is soon...as it has been proven many times, time is relative... ..we just have to wait and see when programmers learn to take better advantage of multiprocessing on both CPUs and GPUs.

Honestly, a lot of us don't need the machines we have, but hey, they sure plenty of bragging rights

Just installed W10 on my new-old Phenom II x4 965BE machine. Don't have any SSD for it but using couple of old HDDs, 80GB and 750GB. Holly smokes, is that ever slooow !!! Btw., started installing W7 on it but it was giving me hard time so I switched to this last W10 insider, punched in W7 registration and it accepted it. Looks like they didn't cut the opportunity to upgrade.

Hahhah, with your current main hardware, anything less will feel like working with snails on a highway.

Why would they? They're still trying to force... I mean push, the OS on us. Ten will still be free until they get the numbers they looking for.

And, if they happen to trap a few into paying for the OS when they can easily get it for free... that's a win-win for them.

Yeah, but there's nothing like building a high performance machine that crushes and makes others drool
