If anyone uses Intel XTU(I don't) there is a new update: Download Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU)

Defect Fixes:

1. 1504531317: [XTU] [SKX] Remove dependency between - Core Voltage and Per-Core Voltage Target, Core Voltage Offset and Per Core Voltage Offset.

2. 1604401485: [XTU] [SKX] Per core voltage target can be tuned independently. If any per core voltage target is tuned above package core voltage and applied and then user clicks on Hide Advanced button then highest voltage of per core voltage target needs to be proposed to package voltage.

3. 1604401508: [XTU] [SKX] Per core voltage offset can be tuned independently. If any per core voltage offset is tuned above package core voltage offset and applied and user clicks on Hide Advanced button then highest voltage of per core voltage offset needs to be proposed to package voltage offset.

4. 1604401514: [XTU] If the user tunes any of per core ratio greater than 1 active core ratio, then no need to tune all per ratios and all active core ratio to the user tuned ratio, instead only 1 active ratio should be tuned to the user tuned ratio .

5. 1604401537: [XTU] On Tuning Core voltage/Core voltage offset - only Core Voltage/Core voltage offset should be applied to system. P-code will automatically update per core voltage target/offset. Upon Apply button click per core voltage target/offset data will get refreshed.

6. 1604401519: [XTU] [SKL] [KBL] MMIO write removed for SKL and KBL if 1 Active core is tuned


Known Issues:
1. If Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility is upgraded, system need a restart to uninstall the build

2. MEI driver on windows 7 system requires "KMDF 1.11 update for Win7" 3. 1604404330: [CFL][XTU] 1-Active Core and Per-Core ratios dependency is not working if 1 Active Core value is proposed to a different value and then changed back to same (active) value.

Was visiting overclock.net and came across this review....



Watching that video begs the question... are we really ready for 8-Core processors, let alone 12? No doubt there will be a time, but the it seems the time isn't here yet for the everyday user, and especially gamers. Spoiler alert... the i7-700K kills the 7800X in most of todays common title games!

Anyway seems to me unless everyday consumer software comes out soon that utilizes 6, 8, or 12-Cores, especially in the gaming community, which is were most performance products are aimed at, we're just buying for bragging rights in the benching world.

I've been seeing comments/reviews like that all over the net. The 17 7700K is overall 13% faster than the 7800X in those 30 games tested, and in some cases 50% faster.

Synthetic benchmarks are fun but as a gamer I could care less about those overall scores. The real excitement/performance is over in the gaming thread where members are posting game video with OSD. That's exactly how this review was done. The gaming performance of the 7800X at this point is terrible. Not clear to me if this will be quickly/easily fixed if as said in the video the issue may be the new cache hierarchy in these latest intel CPUs.

I wouldn't go with the notion that the 7800X is bad chip, I'd just say it, like the 8-Core chips, it may be ahead of it's time on a consumer lever, especially game wise, which is what we're seeing in those poor results.

Again, once consumer software starts taking advantage of 6, 8, or 12-Cores, then they'll become competitive and surpass chips like the 7700K. In short, we now need to software to catch up, especially games.

Based on what I saw in that video, if I were building a new computer today, I would stick with the previous generation chips.

Agreed, and thus the point of my post.

And yeah, games today are not ready for 6 & 8 core processors... as demonstrated in that video. However, someone has to start somewhere and it seems both AMD & Intel are getting the ball rolling in making hexa and octa core processors more common place. This in turn will encourage software vendors to make programs like games more proficient in taking advantage of those extra cores.
