Eventually we're going to get to a point where vendors remove the equation of overclocking as a hidden selling point. What I mean here is vendors will get to a point where their items are no longer overclockable and no longer a concern as a selling point. I'd imagine someone's been tracking returns of various items due to bad overclocks gone wrong. This is probably costing companies millions and somewhere someone is saying enough is enough. I've heard rumors Intel will be locking their processors down as well.

Yes, there's always going to be the group that does it (overclock) but it's going to get harder to the point that many will simply give up.

Anyway that's my two cents on the matter.

I've thought the same thing, but I think that will be difficult to pull off. It is the enthusiasts/overclockers who spend the big money on the high end cards. If they stop buying, Nvidia/AMD/AIBs will feel the pain. That would come close to putting AIBs out of business. The same with Intel. If they hadn't made the 7700K unlocked and not raised the frequency, most everyone would still be buying 6700K's. Most reviewers have basically said the 7700K is just an overclocked 6700K. They would have to do something very dramatic to get most of us with unlocked CPUs to "upgrade" to a locked CPU. Just my opinion, but I don't disagree. That is the way things look to be heading.

yep, I think they will get there. Maybe not completely stop overclocking, but shorten the headroom.

The following changes were made to WhoCrashed 5.54 since version 5.53

BUG FIXED: The program could crash and show an access violation
In certain situations, the software could crash and display an access violation message. This has been fixed.

BUG FIXED: Displayed list of currently processed crash dumps could have same dump file listed twice
When performing analysis, the list of currently processed crash dumps could have the same crash dump file listed twice. This has been fixed.

Minor minor updates, improvements and text corrections
Several unspecified updates, improvements and text corrections have been applied to the software.

Who am I? Yes, many ask, not always in a nice way. I would say 75% gamer and 25% enthusiast. And currently, I'm a 1080P gamer and still enjoying it.

So, that I9 7900X which the enthusiast in me would like to have is $1,340 CDN dollars. The Asus Prime Deluxe X299 MB (ya, the good one) is $660 CDN.

A look at ROTTR at 1080P with a GTX 1080, shows 2 FPS more with the I9 7900X CPU compared to my I7 6700K.

Let's do the math.

($1,340+$660)/2 = $1,000.

My enthusiast side just told my gaming side that it would only cost $1,000 EACH for those 2 additional FPS in ROTTR that the I9 7900X setup would give me. My gaming side is

Now if I gave my entire current build to my nephews the logic for the I9 7900K build just might work. :)

That Tomb Raider must be a very single threaded game. It reacts too little to core numbers.
