I'm likely to sell my 6700k and buy a I9-7920-40 but i am sure don't need it but i WANT IT !

    My Paypal is ready !
Well having just upgraded from a perfectly good Z170 MB and i7-6700K CPU to a Z270 MB and i7-7700K CPU, I'd just be throwing money away in chasing performance. For now, along with my sanity, and wallet. I'll stick to what I have.

That said, my next build won't come until at least 2 years down the road, by then I'll be moving to an i9 system and all it's glory. Till then I'll stick with what I have and drool over the i9 systems and benches posted here :)

For me the question of, if I get new stuff is: Do I need the extras that come with the new CPU's and chipset(turbo 3.0, optane, extra lanes and so on)?

For now the answer is no.
I got real lucky in the silicone lottery with my 6700K where I can run it at 4.9GHz on air for daily use.
I need to jump over my own shadow(eventually) and decapitate(as the Germans call de-lidding in slang) it, and apply some liquid metal, and either get an AIO closed loop cooler, or go to the next level and learn how to build an open loop.

Oh yeah by the way guys, Intel has the X-Series site up now: Intel® Core™ X-Series Processors

Cliff I didn't realize you were such a hardcore overclocker till now. Good on you. I no longer have the time or patience for it. Too much work for me.

Anyway good luck in you endeavors

Thanks, I use the overclock to "turbo charge" my virtual machines. They open really fast, and the response is amazing also.

I'm actually chasing the best i can get before i move into a new Townhouse because i will not be able to even deal with building anymore after that

I will be too much involved in other things so i am going to get what i can while i can and leave this business alone for some years so i will probably grab another GPU as well and some other goodies

I just plan on getting a board and CPU i already have everything else so i mean i am not really tossing money away i am going to get at least $450-500 for my 6700k and Asrock Z170 Board i am not sure if i want to keep the color scheme ram or try a different color but i am hoping to get a good asrock board that isn't too pricey

Nothing like moving into a new home. If it were me, I'd be prioritizing there. I mean you already have a PC to last a few years. And with a new home, you never know what unexpected expenses are going to pop up. Trust me, it happens.

Anyway its your money and I'm sure you've got a plan.
