Tommy, that means that is their frequency out of the box, before you overclock them. They are unlocked, so that means you are not 'stuck'. The only way you are 'stuck' is if you don't overclock the Skylake X. And that does not count any IPC improvements. They may be stock faster that your overclocked 6850, before you overclock them.

I know they will have improvements to beat out Ryzen but my thoughts are i highly doubt you can get more out of it than 4.6 if that

A lot of people were disappointed at the fact they couldn't get much out of these chips for overclocking but honestly from max turbo 3.8 to 4.5 Ghz or more is pretty substantial 700Mhz more is not bad honestly

I just can't see it going higher given the core count that is why Ryzen struggles to get above 4.0Ghz my 1600x is at the max oc as it is but........

I have Bios update for the Agesa version string summit PI-AM4 so hopefully i can use my ram to max speed and boost to 4.1 Oc all cores i'll run some test in a bit

Anyway Steve i understand what you are saying out of the box speed but how hot will they be out of the box and how much more beyond that is the question

If you can get them up 500mhz over stock i would be very impressed but wait and see do you plan on moving up the platform scale ?

I don't know Tommy. I am considering it. My rig is about 2+ years old now and that's probably the longest I have kept any rig. So, I am considering it, but it will depend on a lot of things. As usual with me, the price and the performance. Even being a little older, my rig is doing fine. I don't have to do anything. So, I guess we'll just see what Intel comes out with. But, unless I win the lottery, I seriously doubt you will see me paying $1000 for a CPU. I have really mixed emotions. If I go with Skylake X, I'd like to move up from a 6 core to an 8 core, but not $1000 worth. But, I have considered the Kaby Lake X. Mainly because I really miss the serious overclocking we used to do with the 3770Ks. I love that and have been really out of it since going with the 5930K. Yes, it's overclocked, bit forget any 5.4 overclocks with it. Takes all the fun out of it. Kind of like Pascal with the GPUs. So, I'm just waiting to see what happens. But, I'm not going to complain about what Intel is coming out with until I see it. Right now everything is rumor and speculation.
