I am reading all that I can from as many sources I am finding about these new processors and to me (IMHO) it is a mixed bag of findings.......

AMD could have, if they didn't, who knows.......worked closely over the past few years with game developers to ensure some optimization for their new chips. Maybe they could have worked closer with the bench-marking software folks, maybe they could have worked closer with the MB producers to ensure product availability, maybe they..........well you get the picture. This release has not gone smoothly by any means and now AMD has a major cleanup to perform, hopefully they can clean the mess up before the release of their next release which is coming soon......

I retired from reviewing in 2011.......after more than 10 years on the test bench my Harley was threatening to end our relationship so I gave up the test bench for the open road....

The last AMD product I reviewed was the ASUS Crosshair V Formula I did not own any AMD processor when ASUS asked me to do the review and did not want to spend my cash for one so I asked ASUS to send along one of their middle of the road processors and I would use it.....I found that processor to be definitely a middle of the road product and it was definitely not one that had been binned....and would have lost in the silicon lottery......

Benchmarks have been tilted in Intel's and Nvidia's favor almost for ever.

I found a nice presentation by Gamers Nexus on Ryzen testing methodology and differences reported by reviewers.........Pretty interesting and helps explain the absence of AM4 boards at this time.....

They gave a list to tweaks to improve the performance of AMD CPU's then requested a tweak that would reduce the performance of Intel CPUs. If the motherboard companies could have/could enhance the AMD CPUs, they would. Maybe they did, we just don't know. They are in the business of selling boards. If their boards make the CPU run better/faster, they will sell more boards. Pure and simple. AMD was looking for an unfair advantage either way you look at it. Whatever was done or not done, it wasn't without AMD and Intel knowledge.
My perspective is that until or if AMD gets together with the motherboard manufacturers as Intel did and "enhances" the AMD chips in a similar fashion then I don't have a problem with AMD's recommendation to disable the feature. Otherwise one being enhanced and the other not is like comparing a Ford 289 2-barrel with a GM 350 4-barrel and to the 350's advantage. If AMD does not want this type of enhancement for its chips, perhaps because of the dangers involved, then in any test I'd personally do if I build a Ryzen, I'd disable the feature.

Yep, a real hardware guru. That's why I asked for his opinion when you posted that letter from AMD. I knew @kipper would never do it. I was just curious if requests like that were common in his line of work. I used to read most of his reviews, all top notch.
