So I'm contemplating getting rid of the troublesome Corsair Link completely. I had "heard" that when using a curve to control rad fans, you could uninstall Link and that curve would be retained.

Seems these days Corsair is actually responding to forum posts. Here's what the Product Manager for Corsair Link software is telling me:

"Without Link software running, the H110i can only control fans based on the coolant temperature. You actually want to run the fans off of your coolant temperature anyhow; coolant temperature doesn't fluctuate as rapidly as CPU temperature does, and cooling performance is directly related to the difference between the coolant temperature and your CPU temperature."

Not sure if he is saying if my Link CURVE was based on coolant temp it would be retained if I uninstalled Link. The only thing I know of that monitors both my rad fans RPM and my coolant temp is Corsair Link itself. So how would I know the curve's working if I uninstalled Link?

Speaking of the curve, mine is set with rad fan RPM to CPU package. I leave it flat at 1300RPM (it's quiet) until the package goes beyond 65C which it never does unless I OC the CPU. Corsair is saying to set the curve to the coolant temp. Look at this data from the Link log after a basic firestrike run. The CPU package as expected hits 55C but the coolant temp hardly ever moves other than a few degrees with a max of 28.9C.

What is the point of a CURVE based on coolant temp when the coolant temp only fluctuates a few degrees? Are you guys with Link controlling rad fans based on a coolant temp curve? What about members who run constant 4.6 -5.0 Skylake CPU overclocks? What are your coolant temps at?

I switched to a Lepa Aquachanger 240 after I got tired of the usb header control/Cooler software of the Antec 920 I was using. Amazing how removing another piece of software control, and just using my MB control/settings works so much better. Look into Asus thermal control

I use a Lamptron fan controller.

A couple of the Ten Forum gurus avoiding Corsair controlling fans. Yep.

Corsair can't even control their own fans without issues.

Just found out what's killing performance of my Samsung 960Evo. TEMPERATURE !!
    Normal work, almost at idle:
    Controller chip 41c
    Memory chip 50c

Under full load up to 62c controller chip
Under full load memory chip up to 99c and HW Info probably can't even display 3 numerals !!!
It's supposed to throttle down at 90c and that's what it's doing.

Going to do something about it. First I'll move GPU down because M2 is right above it and also ordered some 2 sided heat transfer tape to glue a cooler on it and even eventually with small fan on it. It's no bloody good like this.

WOW! That's high temps, hurry up before you kill your SSD.

Tape should be in on Tuesday, I have some termo glue but don't want to void warranty, to difficult to remove, Just got an IR thermometer to confirm temps. Moved GPU down one notch (it's PCIe x8 anyway) so no performance loss and max temp is down 8 to 10c but still too high. I made a cooler for VRM for one of my old MBs so I have to just shorten it by one Cm to fit. Found too late that 250GB Evo has temperature problems rectified in 950 Pro and 951 and larger models of Evo. 950Evo is only one with that problem.

Besides the 5 fans I installed, I also put a small portable AC in the room where my computer is. Keep it on when temps are warm outside, this helps keep everything cooler in my rig. My ssd's hardly ever go over 34° no matter what I am doing.

I soo want an AMD Radeon Vega Frontier 16GB with built in water cooling. Makes me drool a lot! But price is ridiculous, ~1800€ here in Finland. But then again, it would serve it's purpose in the long run. Over twice as fast in 3D rendering compared to NVidia Titan XP.

Yep, similar thing here except no AC. 3x 80mm in front and 2x140mm at back used also as push pull on liquid CPU cooler. Also one 200mm fan in the side panel. On old MB I also had a fan over VRM and one over NB.
Well, this should do it, just made it now:
