Oh boy
Did you even bother to read what the item is and what it actually represents?
I know it's not the conservative early 90's PC, but people do need more processing power these days and a Pentium II machine simply won't cut it!
And this isn't just exclusive to "mac pro users" unless you saying they're the only ones who can do 4 & 8K video editing, just to name a few :)

Yes, i understand. I work in IT. I have for over 20 years. I totally understand computational power. Machines like this are professional workstations, like the Mac Pro. I have been around mainframes, i have installed big iron, i have virtualized, and now its all going to the cloud serverless and containerized.
I am not all about low end hardware. I just don't talk that much about the larger servee architecture stuff i do....mainly because much of it is unix/linux.

Not trying to be funny but I know plenty of people who worked in IT for many years but don't keep up with the latest tech. I also know plenty of college professors who teach but don't keep up with all aspects of the PC world so.... I know, I've talked to many as I was finishing up my Computer Information Systems degree last year.
Anyway the fact that you've been around IT for a long time doesn't qualify you as all knowing. None of us are; if we were, we'd fail to learn anything
Oh, and the "this really falls out the realm of enthusiast" doesn't mean people aren't interested. You might not, but others might

No they don't. Maybe you do, but the average user doesn't. The average user is email, Facebook, word processing, Skyping, maybe a basic game or two. None of which needs all that much horsepower. Matter of fact, if a Pentium II could run Windows 10, most folks would be happy with it.
Heck, even most corporate users would, too, because the requirements of the average office worker ain't much more than the average I outlined above.
My first IT job was in 1996. Hung with average users, hard core gamers and bleeding edge fetishists. This machine is the equivalent of a Bugatti Veyron in the automotive world. Cool to look at, fun to watch, but "Why?".
Even better analogy. Unless you are doing whole CG movies at home, owning this is like buying a Hummer. Its more bodily appendage compensation than useful.

I keep up with hardware. I work for a fast paced technology company. I've spent the past 2 days at a Detroit tech conference, i was at the AWS summit a few months ago in Chicago. And like many in my field, i am making the transition from server engineer to Devops.
I don't proclaim to be all knowing. Never said that.
Certainly enthusiasts will be interested in this hardware, i am interested. But i doubt many excited enthusiasts will purchase it due to their excitement. But i could see a video editor, music producer, or high end developer using a box like this purchased by their employer. These are the same type of people who also purchased the mac pro desktops i mentioned earlier.
Oh well, off to my next presentation. Google is here speaking about how they do devops.

Okay, let's try again, since I have my PC and it's easier to reply on then my phone, as I can cut and paste and quote much easier.
Yeah, it would be very much suited to professional workloads where the amount of time saved would pay for the cost of the machine.
The z8 fully specc'd out with 3TB of RAM will cost at least $30,000 just for the RAM.
Yes, 3 levels a Z8, Z6 and Z4, and mostly for high end professional needs doing 4k and 8k video.
No, my point was that Mac has had a pretty high end Mac Pro out for these same desktop professionals doing 4k and 8k video. I would suspect that people who bought, or would buy a Mac Pro might be the same people who would have a need to invest in a machine like this .
