Rereading your original email to Zotac, I see your tone was perfect. You didn't challenge them on VRM heat. If you did you likely would have simply got a response that it's within spec. Instead your tone was concern about the VRM temps and asking for options to run the VRM cooler.

You did get a bit better response than a polite "stick it" but not much. They mention your proposed retrofit (thermal pads), an artic accelero (from the GTX 660 days) and a third option they aren't even sure would fit. And then they tell you for warranty purpose if ever required make sure you set back to defaults. Terrific!

You gave Zotac the opportunity to act like EVGA and they declined. My guess is you wouldn't get much further with them. Zotac does keep the GPU cool but if VRM/mosfets blew you would lose everything in an rma, including that unique Nvidia chip that is Nessie.

Personally I wouldn't consider anything other than a thermal pad mod, easy to undo for warranty if you ever have to. But I'd be writing to "Ask GN" to see what an expert like Steve Burke says about those Zotac suggestions and to ask him how a proper thermal pad mod for Nessie would work.
Thank you so much @specialkone as usual you are correct.

Will join the GamersNexus forums and or send GN an email explaining and asking about the Thermal Pad Mod.

I have now replied to that email with the following and I don't think I will get an answer from them now.

Thanks you for your reply however why suggest an after market cooler that is not compatible with the Zotac 1080 Ti Amp Extreme? I came to you in the hope you could suggest a fix to this Power delivery problem (Heat, excessive heat). I am so very disappointed in the lack of support shown and delivered by what is described as a premium company in which I had every confidence.

I am now researching the UK consumer laws in regards to returning this card and never buy nor recommending any zotac product again.

I even held off for some time on release of the 1080 Ti's to wait for the Zotac 1080 Ti Amp Extreme due to UK stock availability problems and now feel foolish as I was going to get the EVGA 1080 TI FTW3 but being a long to customer of Zotac through the years I thought the wait would be worth it.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you in regards to the responses to my request for help

    Regards,

    Mr A Mitchell

Sorry things didn't work out better for you, worf. From the get go you handled the situation perfectly IMHO. Sadly Zotac didn't.

Yes, try the Ask GN feature. He responds to those questions with video.

My Nessie preforms outstandingly with no running issues what so ever but I don't like the idea of a half baked cooling solution on the power delivery system on a premium £800+ card. Thanks again

Put a small post on the section that covers this issue on the Gamers Nexus site. Once approved it will show up. Hopefully I willbe asked for the full details on the correspondences between Zotac Support and myself.

A very polite way of saying "stick it" is how I would take it.
