Well, looks like the new Intel chips are official.

Intel's Core i9 and Skylake-X parts deliver up to 18 cores on the desktop

In my head, I thought "$600 for an 8 core? Not bad. Maybe I should start looking into a new motherboard."

I may need to take a break from computer related sites for a bit. Not sure my wallet can handle much more torture.
Honestly i don't understand what Intel is trying to prove they still have higher than high prices and believe me when i say this AMD is about to be a King because who wants to keep paying ridiculous prices for a CPU when a year or two down the road they'll just do it again

Intel's fan base might start taking a hit i mean Jesus age Christ who in the hell is going to pay $2000 American for a CPU ?

i mean dang they just made AMD look like the sweetest stuff ever and when Threadripper comes to pass i am sure it is going to be way less than any intel CPU on the X299 chipset very sad day

Tommy, most of Intel's fan base is not interested in a 18 Core/36 Thread CPU. For those that use them, it may not be such a bad price. But an 8 core/16 thread CPU for $600 is not too bad. Stop going to extremes. It wasn't made for people like you and me. If you want to go back to AMD, go. You don't need an excuse about something you are not going to buy anyway and have no use for, no matter what they charge. I can assure you AMD is not going to sell their 16 Core Threadripper for $500.

There's "budget" build, "performance" build and there's "enthusiast" build. The i9 is not for everybody and you know where it belongs.

Yes i know it's not for everyone but damn do they have to be over $600 for a decent performer just saying

Actually Steve i was looking at the I9-7940 and sell my 6700k Build I pretty much have all the money save already on my Paypal now pulling the trigger is a different story but we'll see

Remember that is why i was asking about a 5960x Prices will be dropping but if i can get a 6950x for a decent price
Only reason for doing so i plan on not building for along time anymore because a lot of the gear we use don't give gains like they used too

I know there are budget builds but i was hoping Intel was going to go a little mild with the pricing this time around

    Well i believe you

I barley got into X99 Systems so you would know much more than me

Either way the later cores are major overkill for anyone

Tommy, the current 8 core/ 16 thread CPU, i7-6900K was released at about $1100. The i9 8 core/ 16 thread CPU is being released at $600. I think that constitutes a significant price drop. It certainly would help my bank account if I were going to buy one.

Correct those prices are good actually and $1000 isn't bad for the X flagship you plan on using Optane ?
