Well, a 3-4 degree drop will definitely make you feel better. Whether it really has a significant impact on your hardware is debatable. Sure, if you are attempting to overclock it to it's max, you need it cool to push if further. But if the chip operates just fine to say 70C, the difference between 42C and 46C isn't going to have much of an impact on the lifespan of the hardware.

In theory, the cooler temps are better, but it's not like at 42C it would run for 7 years and at 46C it will only last 3 years. It might be that it lasts for 6 years, 51 weeks, 3 days and 4 hours at 42 and 6 years, 51 weeks, 3 days and 3 hours and 57 minutes at 46C.

A few degrees cooler is better performance, period. Doesn't have to be overclocking. My GPU will typically hit 2000MHZ while gaming. In the last two days with the weather moving to 29C and not turning on the AC, I was in every game situation clocking at no more than 1929 with related FPS drops. That's what I mean by happier.

Would hardware running at 46C versus 42C have an effect over life span? I agree, of course not. It's built to take much higher temps than that.

Well I've been waiting for Evga to release the GPU I want for last 2 weeks, still waiting. Evga is suppose to notify me by email when its released. At this moment in time nobody has this updated GPU. Its the EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 FTW2 with 11GHz GDDR5X Memory. I am hoping that maybe after May 22nd it may be released. The Older version is of course available on many places. They both have the same product # thou. Only way to identify the 2 cards is by the box it comes in....Why Evga does not give these two cards a different product # is anyone's guess. So soon as Evga lets me know, it will be ordered...

The EVGA product website is more confusing than ever with 1080FTW's and 1080 FTW 2. Which one exactly are you planning to get? I see two 1080 FTW2's. Both are 11GHZ GDDR5X memory. One is the FTW2 Gaming with similar clocks to mine 1721MHZ/1860MHZ. The other is the FTW2 DT Gaming, with lower clocks similar to the FE 1607MHZ/1733MHZ. They are different part numbers.

OK, it's the 6686KR, the left one in my compare, 1721/1860 clocks, ICX cooling, the thermal sensors and 11GHZ memory. IMHO, your choice is one fine performing GPU, good value and a great match with the rest of your hardware.

    Worth the wait, Mr. Mike.

Yes Solarstarshines, you did show us how big those cards are which I appreciated and I remembered. I also remembered how stunning those pictures are and thinking why don't my pictures look that good.

But that reviewer had a video, shoved those three cards "in your face" at several angles and was talking about and showing what we were discussing - support for the GPU.

As I look at your pictures again, I'm still thinking why don't mine look that good. Maybe's that's why I didn't refer to them.

I'm hoping you have some recent games. Would love to see some video of your system performing with OSD over in the gaming threads.
