I really, really wanted the FTW3, but the Step Up program was too much of a temptation, so I'm just going FE and probably going to slap hybrid kits on both cards.
Man, that FTW3 is pretty though.
Yeah, that's an adage that I subscribe to as well. I generally like to set a budget first, then buy what I can at the time, and then try to stop looking at prices. However, forums like this always make that hard as others talk about the technology. I've had friends who have waited, and waited, and waited and waited. Meanwhile, I'm playing games and enjoying the PC that I bought. And as you know, I like to buy a few steps down from the top, with the intention of just going with a complete rebuild in a few years time. I think it saves me money in the end, meets my needs, and gives me upgrades to the rest of the family.
In your case, I think you need to NOT ignore the rumors as you are spending a big chunk of change on this part. I've built entire systems for friends that have cost less than your card. I think this is one reason I gravitate away from the high end hardware and stay a few steps behind. I feel I suffer from less buyers remorse.
Don't you wish we could build our own laptops? My current personal laptop just turned 3, but I don't have any reason to replace it yet. It's still fast, has plenty of disk space, and the battery is doing fantastic. < That part really surprises me. Just doesn't seem like that much has changed in the laptop arena in the past few years. My laptop has a Core i5, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB PCI-Express SSD.
