is SSD speed worth 425G of drive space?

Hello, I recently purchased a 525G crucial SSD for my HP notebook but since then I have purchased a Dell Inspiron 3650 desktop PC it has an intel i5 processor with 8G RAM and 1TB hdd. I have ordered a Ripjaws 16G memory kit and will install as soon as it gets here and my question is should I trade out my 1Tb hdd for the 525G crucial SSD(i should mention that the SSD was only used 4 days)? Will the speed increase outweigh the memory loss or can I just take the SSD and make it my main hard drive and have the 1Tb used for extra storage? I am very new to all this and would like to hear any opinions out there, Thanks in advance.

Use the SSD for the OS and apps, move the HDD to the second position for storage of long term data and you can also store a backup image of the SSD on it as an added advantage. You can even setup a custom recovery partition on the HDD and boot the computer into it if needed if Windows on the SSD crashes for some reason.

Question is, what would you use in the laptop, though?

Thanks I am going to research how to do that and see if I will be able too and about the laptop I have just put the original HDD back in it being as there was nothing wrong with it in the first place. I wanted a faster machine and when I saw the SSD wasn't doing enough in the laptop that's when I purchased the Inspiron.

A 256GB+ SSD for Windows 10 is well worth the lost storage space when compared to a slow HDD. The size depends on waht apps you need to fit. The increased speed for the system/application drive is well worth while. If you can't get the old HDD baked into the same system using adapters, then just purchase a USB3.0 enclosure for it and you can use the old drive that way.

On my Asus U46SV I moved my HDD to the DVD-drive bay using an adapter, tossed the DVD drive in the scap parts bin and put an Samsung Evo 950 512GB SSD as a system/boot/app drive. For even more added storage on the go I have a 3TB USB3.0 drive. So my setup has a total of 4.2TB space to use, that is quite a lot for an ancient laptop like mine.
