    PC restarts instead of shutdown.

    Hi,

I've upgraded my NVMe from the crucial MX200 to the Samsung 960 pro. I imaged the hard drives using acronis.

Since then sometimes when I shutdown the pc will boot back up again after a few seconds. The same thing happens in my dual boot of my Hackintosh so I don't think it's software related.

My hackintosh is on a separate SSD.

While installing the NVMe I accidently knocked the usb 3.0 header cable and broke a few pins.

Could the broken pins on the USB 3.0 Header be causing the restart this or is it a faulty NVMe drive or something else. I've check all connections etc and everything seems connected ok. It was working fine before I changed the NVMe.

    My Specs are
    Corsair Obsidian 550d case
    Asus Z170-A motherboard
    Intel i7 6700k Processor
    32gb DDR4 Ram
Gigabye Nvidia Geforce 1050ti Graphics Card

Since it happens in two OS's I would look at Motherboard. More specifically I would enter BIOS, note customizations you've made and then I would load and save optimized defaults. Then apply customizations. There are several threads common to this issue in title within this forums and on the internet. Please review and in next post advise which step you have taken.

On the header, if nothing is plugged into header then I don't believe a broken pin will not cause an issue. A bent pin touching would, I would check pins.
Given you exerted enough force to break pins / cable it maybe worth removing MB and seeing if you did any damage. There is a lot of circuity within board, did the force do something you can't see. I would also ensure there are no broken pin bits with case.

If a cable is connected, disconnect and see if behavior continues.

I think I might have solved it. It looks like faulty on board graphics. I fitted a Gigabyte GeForce 1050ti graphics card today and the restarts seem to have disappeared.

Looks like I won't be able to RMA motherboard due to broken pins.

I will keep an eye out the next few days to see if the problem happens again then mark as solved.

    Thanks for your help.
