    AMD FX 8350 voltage queries.

Hi everyone, I've got a little bit of a problem regarding my new set up.

I got a new rig for Christmas which included a MSI Gaming 970 motherboard and a AMD FX 8350. I robbed the cooler off my old pc which is a Arctic Freezer Pro 7 and i noticed quite hot temperatures upon entering a game. Forza Horizon 3 took my CPU to 70C !

So after going into bios and disabling the turbo boost technology for my CPU the temperatures have dropped dramatically. The only thing that still bothers me is that when i use MSI commander it tells me that my CPU is still using 1.49V which seems very high still to me.

I can use MSI commander to drop the volts but since reinstalling windows 10 today sometimes it seems to fail to load and tells me my overclocking has failed and fail safe defaults need to be applied before posting past bios.

I'm wondering all in all if the voltage for the CPU is high or if I'm just worrying over nothing.

Thanks for any help and information.

Those CPU's use a lot of electricity, 125 watts and they tend to run hotter because of that. That voltage is right inline with whats being reported as stock voltage as well as your reported temps.

1.5v is max recommended voltage for FX processors. If you are not overclocking it should stay at or under 1.4v.
Use AMD Overdrive for more accurate readings. AMD Overdrive Utility 4.3.1.0698 Download - TechSpot
VIN0 would be your true Core voltage in AOD.

I had one of these boards last year & found if all is not well just reset the bios (hard reset or use reset to defaults option) & do not use the software as the bios has a good section to monitor things with.

If you lower you voltage too much you could end up corrupting your software on the drive, like has already been said if you are not overclocking don't touch it with software remove it then reset bios settings - the FX-8350 should quite stable on that board.

Another thing to say is as it is a new board you will if you have not done already is update the bios to the latest version as that board has gone through alot of stability bios updates.

    M4 is latest bios:
Support For 970 GAMING | MSI Global | Motherboard - The world leader in motherboard design

With this board I used the following cooler:
ARCTIC Freezer 13 - 200 Watt Multicompatible Low Noise CPU Cooler for AMD and Intel Sockets with pre-applied MX-4 High Performance Thermal Compound: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
