Cooler for an AM3+ 6 core FX CPU?

I'm getting a six core AM3+ FX CPU for an Asrock 770 Extreme3 board. (Using the last beta BIOS released that adds AM3+ support.)

I want to get a cooler suitable for the FD6100WMW6KGU CPU that's fairly quiet. The TDP of it is 95 watt. Had to get it from South Korea. Apparently this particular CPU was never sold in North America. Every one I've found is in China, S. Korea or another place in Asia. Found plenty of 125W TDP 6 core FX CPUs, same GHZ, in the USA.

Currently I have a Phenom II x2 555 Black Edition on it, unlocked to quad core. TDP on it is 80W - with 2 cores working. I put a cooler that's a big hunk of aluminum on it, and swapped its fan for a larger one (the cooler has mounts for two sizes) but it seems to be struggling to keep it cool. Load it up a bit and the fan revs up to where its pretty loud. It's a CoolerMaster 4 wire fan. Not over or under clocking or setting anything to other than defaults, aside from the core unlock. I also applied fresh CoolerMaster silver paste, just enough to coat the surface.

The CPU is identifying itself as a Phenom II X4 B55. A google on that shows a TDP of 95W. Only 15W more for two more cores?

I have one similar to that, but only 3 pipes. It's what I took the fan from. I'd had it on a dual core Socket 939 Athlon and it often had the fan running at maximum speed.

120mm fan is quite a bit larger...

What are your complete PC specs? Is this a custom build or OEM?

Most mid tower case's, that cooler will fit just fine. The bigger the fan means; more CFM of air and the less RPM's are needed which mean less noise.

Custom build. Case is 8" wide. Has places to install 120mm fans front and rear.

I modded my own Artic Freezer 13 cooler, which I like because the Freezer 13 is 160W heatsink & the fan makes it even higher from a safety point of view & clears the ram which is also about the same price as the Coolermaster Evo...

Also be carefull with the temps that are reported by the AMD chips, a lot of recent packages don't have an actual thermometer on chip but use some strange algorithm to "calculate" the temperature, and this can be +/- 5-20ºC, ( normally around 5ºC but will depend on individual chip).

I have a FX-8350 Vishera 8 Core and have a thermocouple actually on the heat-sink, and this reports a significantly lower Temperature than the Chip reports to the OS - At the moment it's showing 50º+ from the chip, (in Speccy), and 43ºC on the front panel of the fan controller unit

Always worthwhile checking with an independent tool to see how far out a particular chip is, I have an IR Temp Probe that agrees with the Thermocouple

Think a Coolermaster Hyper TX3 would do? I have one, and can 3D print brackets to fit a second fan. Cooler Master: Hyper TX3

1 more heat pipe and bigger fan, but the TX3 is rated for up to 130W while the FX 6 core on its way by slow boat from South Korea is 95W. I'll try the TX3 and if it's not quiet enough to suit I'll most likely go for a Hyper 212 EVO.
