Strange video issue with new build

Hi, i just finished my first build. Most everything works fine with the exception of the video from the GPU. The issue is with my second monitor (display 2) which did fine on the old win10 64bit system.

What is happening is that if i use the vga to dvi-d setup using a converter display 2 stops working all the time. Playing a game on display 1 or just searching files on display 1, display 2 just goes blank and then says its going to sleep. Then when i finish the game on display 1, display 2 comes back on.

Also i see the bios and part of windows startup on display 2 and then it finishes startup on display 1

Now if i change the cable and go from dvi-d to dvi-i display 2 does not boot i have to unplug the cable and then plug it back in and then it is it fine until i boot again, also having this setup shuts down my dvd rom for some reason. So i removed that dvi cable and went back to vga and my dvd rom came back on.

    Here is my setup:

    Windows 10 home - i7 6700k at 4gh
750 w PSU gold rated modular
    MSI 170a M5 Motherboard
GSkill Ripjaws 32gb dual channel memory
    Gigabyte GTX 960 Extreme GPU
3 hdd and 2 ssd and ramdrive which is not being used yet.

Display 1 is using HDMI cable (no issues)
Display 2 is using vga and an adapter for the DVI-i port
    Both are using the GPU

Any ideas what i might look at to try to figure out whats going on here?

Is there a special report that i can do and share it that might help?

    Thanks dave:)

Does monitor 1 have built in speakers? What type of ports do monitors 1/2 have?

If monitor 1 doesn't have speakers built into it, using a HDMI cable is not necessary. The only difference between HDMI and DVI is the audio signal. Both do 1080p video. If at all possible and preferably, use display port to display port cables for each monitor.

It's always best to use the correct type cable...meaning, do not use adapters. Some user will experience all kinds of problems while other users never have an issue while using a GPU adapter.

Next, make sure you have the latest GPU driver installed.

    OK thanks.

    Display 1 is HP2311x HP 2311x Black 23" 5ms Full HD LED BackLight LCD Monitor Slim Design 250 cd/m2 DC 3,000,000:1 (1,000:1)
    Display 2 is HP W2072a HP W2072a 20-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor: Computers & Accessories

Links are only for specs, both bought locally 4 years ago brand new.

When i use the dvi to dvi cable with no adapter it shuts down my cdrom. I think i have the new drivers since i just installed the OS and everything but i will check again. MSI comes with a host of driver checker utilities. And its really strange how it starts windows boot on display 2 but then you log in on display 1.

The processor seems to be fine and looked fine when i installed it. However what happened (i thought this worth mentioning) is that i got a OEM 6700k so it came without the cooler as i already had a cooler. But during shipping the chip was not only dislodged from the cardboard box holding it but it also was not in the plastic sleeve either, it was bouncing around free inside the intel box.

Now if it were a AMD chip i would have immediately returned it as the pins would have been messed up. But since the intel chip is flat and the pins are board side, i didnt return it. I looked at it very closely and did not look like any damage. I also wiped off the heat sink side with alcohol and blew it off with canned air.

So im thinking this is more GPU issue than chip issue at this time. I am limited as to what cable i can use because of the difference between what is on the display side and what is on the GPU side.

Im also curious since i use display 2 for non gaming i wonder if i should use the board ports for that display and the GPU ports for display 1, i wonder if it will still recognize both displays. I guess only one way to find out huh lol..

Also attached is my dxdiag file.
