thank you all what started this thread was trying to get optimum performance out of my samsung 850 pro ssd. with all the information here i have several options. the first would be to learn how to update my bios to v17.20, hoping i will get ahci. secondly, get the gigabyte board which would need ddr4 ram and latest amd cpu, ouch. if i need to build again it would be an intel i5. a simple step by step on how to update bios would be appreciated. some of the videos i'm watching are confusing. thanks pothound
Download and run MSI's live update utility:
Support For 870A-G54 | MSI USA | Motherboard - The world leader in motherboard design
Pick Windows 8 64-bit for the OS system, live update is the top one under utilities. It says for Windows 8 64-bit but works in Windows 10 as well.
Here's a youtube video:
MSIĀ® HOW-TO use Live Update 6 to update BIOS - YouTube
I would CTRL-Alt-Del, open task manager, kill the live update process/app. Rerun live update and scan for utilities, make sure you have the latest version of live update. Then scan for bios again and see what it says
My live update is version 6.2.0.05 and is running on Windows 10 64-bit. I've flashed my motherboard bios with it. I probably have all the required .net frameworks, though. With the Live Update screen open, click on the i with the circle around it upper right corner.
