Need a more powerful PSU. Advice?

Here's my build. I bought online a second matching GPU for crossfire (which is still being shipped), which brings my system requirements to 765w while my PSU is rated for 750w. Using PSU calculators they all seem to agree that my new system, plus overclocking, will be about 865w. I'm in Canada so the really good PSUs are expensive, and the cheaper ones have terrible reviews and seem to all die in a year. I'm looking at a Cooler Master V1000 which Memory Express has on sale for $180, and my local stores have a couple in stock (but very limited supplies) so I can buy it but I should hurry before it's out of stock.

So yay or nay? is there anything cheaper that you would trust? Though really saving $60 may not be worth it.

You might want to check the reviews out ...... newegg has some pretty negative reviews but only on the life of the PSU. Seems to be short lived with the odd few exceptions. I would look at Seasonic, XFX, Antec for a brand.

Also, use one of those online PSU calculators to determine minimum required wattage.

A PSU is the last thing you want to save money on in a computer build. It is the heart of your system and the cheaper ones do not have the quality or safety features of the better brands.

Here are some web sites to review and for the OEM versions, who actually makes them. Johnny Guru's site is probably the best reviews around, although he doesn't do it any longer. He was hired by Corsair. But his reviews are still relevant.

yeah, the Newegg reviews did have me concerned. However, the Jonny Guru Review literally gushed over it, and found out it very closely matches the Seasonic Platinum 660XP and is very clearly a Seasonic PSU. I bought it because it was discounted from $260 to $180, and I purchased the 2 year IPR protection plan. It is in the process of being discontinued, so if it does fail in a year I will get an equivalent PSU as a replacement.

Already bought the Cooler master with an exchange warranty. The negative reviews of the EVGA indicate that it can fry my other components, so no thanks. I'll stick with the PSU that may quietly die in a year then be replaced under warranty.

Good makes to look out for:

    Seasonic
    Superflower
    Corsair
    Be Quiet!

As long as you get bronze rated or above you'll be OK.

Seasonic and Super Flower are the only Manufacturers mentioned. Corsairs are manufactured by different manufacturers depending on which model you buy. Some are made by Super Flower, some By Channel Well (CWT) and some by Seasonic. Be Quiet is the same. Some models are made by Fortron Source. EVGA is made by Super Flower. It just takes a lot of research to know what you are actually getting.

They might have made the EVGA PSU's and they did a really great job making this model. One of the sites you recommend JonnyGuru gave it a 9.9 rating. His review link below Steve.
