Hey guys, first time builder here.
I just attached the motherboard to my case and I notice that it slightly touches some unused standoffs.
In case that helps:
Case: Corsair 200R series
Motherboard Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 3 EU
Is it possible to remove them?

Yes, they can be unscrewed from back plate an SHOULD be removed, Also check for any other ones that may be hiding under MB.
If they are metal of course.
The most common mistake novice system builders make, standoffs either not installed or in wrong place.
"I just put together my new computer and when turned on there was a spark and smoke, what did go wrong" ?
If the standoffs are hexagon you can use a nutdriver or small socket, usually metric 5mm or maybe 3/16", to remove them. If they are smooth they probably are not removable without force [riveted on] but maybe a pair of pliers would help.
Bottom line when installing a motherboard with pre stand offs you want to re locate them to the right holes on the board
#1 Check motherboard holes vs the one's on the case and how many holes will tell you how many standoffs to use and how to position it
#2 always remove extra standoffs becuase you can kill your Motherboards career before it began because of it not being grounded
#3 Always make sure to always prep because problems come from out of nowhere

Also make sure when installing there is room to work you don't want fans or cords in the way you always want to keep everything neat while going step by step in doing that you can also take your time and do proper cable management as well

Determine which form factor your board is, ATX or MATX are the most typical. Almost all commercial cases will tell you which holes to put the standoffs in. It is usually embossed on the inside back of the motherboard tray with each hole assigned a letter. You may have to hold a flashlight shining across the back of the case to see them, but they are almost always there, Certainly with Corsair cases. Make sure that there is a standoff for each hole in the motherboard and each hole is screwed down snug, not real tight. Also make sure there are no extra standoffs in the case. This is an example, from a Corsair case.
