    compatibility

Hello This is my first attempt at a build and my hardware knowledge is limited compared to my software.
I have used PC parts Picker but Micro Center is near me so I built this desktop there. Now I need to see if it all fits and is compatible.

?BIOS does it need flashing, ?paste needed or not with Intel, ?more cables, ?fans,

Is there a site where I can enter these parts to see if they are compatible or is there some one who an help me.
I wold gladly check this with PC PP but I cannot figure how to enter it unless it is built there. If I build it at PC PP a lot of parts are not available at Micro Center.
    Thanks for taking a look.

    Hey Peter,
The mainboard will ship with current bios at time of manufacture, the processor may or not come with paste, and you should get cables with your components. I think that case only ships with one fan but has the capacity for five, you should have at least one fan in and one fan out. Check the individual part specifications on Micro Center's or the manufacturer's websites. Asus's MB specs will tell what processors, memory, ect. are compatible with their product. You will also find the extra cables and accessories that are packaged with the individual parts. I would definitely consider a graphics card and an extra HDD for storage. If you plan to use the machine for gaming, video editing or other processor intense applications look into a better cooler to replace the stock Intel one.

What about your graphics card ?

I prefer all fans to blow into the case to provide a more efficient cooling, this way keeps your mobo, cpu & psu cooler.
The pressure will just push air out of all vents.

Also - go to the Part Picker Website to put all your selection together it will tell you any issues that have been reported to the site for a mobo / part incompatability.

"Asus's MB specs will tell what processors, memory, etc. are compatible with their product. "
So if I check out the board it will tell me what is compatible. I did not see how to do that but will try again.
I thought Intel processors did not require pasting - no?
Thanks for the BIOS info being up to date.
I have graphics card now but don't know if it will fit - NVidia GE Force 420. I do no gaming just conservative use.
I thought he heat sink would be ample but if not I will have to get a cooler. Will the heat sink work although not perfect?
I have a new hard drive to use and it does what I need. It is WD HDD.
Maybe I will get an SSD, not sure.
I am counting on the on board video and audio to be be OK for my purposes.
I'm trying to keep the cost down(social security). Just so it works but on the conservative side.
Should I get an exhaust fan or an intake fan. It does not say which the one is?

I have been to PC PP but cannot see where to enter my parts. I have made builds there but a lot of the parts are not available at Micro center which is down the street.

Thanks all for the help. I will check out the board for what's compatible.

I may have a problem with the mother board. I have a new monitor which has a VGA and a DVI port- no HDMI.
The board has the following ports; 1 x Display Port 1.2,
    1 x HDMI 1.4.
    Does
1 x Display Port 1.2 go with the VGA or DVI?? If not I have a wrong board for my new monitor.

    Neither...it's own port.

As RoadBlaster has pointed out you don't have a GPU (graphics card) on that list. Most GPU have all 3 types of ports on them....so it would be just a matter of getting a cable to connect monitor to GPU.

You could use an adapter to convert the connection.....but most of the time they seem to cause problems.

enter display port to dvi into your search or eBay search and you should find numerous adaptors available

the same is true for HDMI to VGA or Display Port to VGA but is better to use the DVI if possible

    I'm not sure I understand.
Are you saying I insert my NVidia in the PC and connect a dvi cable to it from my monitor?
Should I pick out another board that says it has DVI so I don't have conflict with an adapter. The NVidea card is about 5 years old so may not have the DVI port and if it blows, I would then need a new card not the on board one.?
