    Black screen after applying overclock


    Hello :) I wanted to try overclocking for the first time today, but I didnt come very far. After applying the overclock and restarting my PC, the whole screen goes black. Then I have to force restart my PC. After that Im getting sent to this screen saying overclock failed, and asks me to press a button to get back into the bios. I had to change my settings to default to get my PC up and running again. What can be the problem?

    I followed a nice tutorial made by JayzTwoCents ( Beginners Guide: How to overclock AMD Processors FX-8350 Piledriver - YouTube )
    Maybe I could try another tutorial?

    First off i didn't watch the video but i do know his show well

    Anyway how did you overclock your 8350 ?

    Ok just looking at the Video Jay is wrong in a lot of the settings he chose

    COOL & QUIET stays on don't disable any C states that is why you got a Black screen

    You don't need to take those off for any reason when it was the older tech Phenoms Athlons you would do that

    Now your board should be able to do the same overclock but the voltages vary

    Most of the time 4.5 Ghz is like 1.43-44 4.6 1.45-46 4.7-4.8 Ghz is 1.47 the lowest 1.488 the highest temps need to be monitored 62c is the tops you want to be below that but mind you given the remake of these chips the thermals should be better and you might get lower voltages

    Also LLC on HIGH you can run HT at 2600 change the ram to the proper speed or do a BUS overclock and get more out of your ram but that is for more advanced users

    Your better off hitting the Multiplyer and leave bus overclocking alone for now till you learn it better

    Wow, thanks! I will try that in an hour and see if I can make any progress. Hopefully, there will be no more black screens :)

    Ok, I raised the CPU manual voltage to 1.4 and the CPU ratio to 22.5. Everything ran great on 4.5 ghz, but after around 1-2 minutes on my desktop, my PC completely freezed. I restarted my computer and the same thing happened. I had to restore the default settings. Maybe my voltage is too low?

    for 4.5 Ghz needs to be at least 1.44 1.45 volts pretty much what ever your oc is match the voltage but i am sure you can skim 1.43-1.44 for 4.5 Ghz and run Cinebench to check stability if it can't pass that or lock up up the voltage but nothing over 1.45 that is too much for that overclock

    Nice thanks! I tried 1.43 and it seems good so far. No crashes :) I appreciate your help!

    Yes you're welcome just do a couple of stress test and if it fails bump it again but other than this it should be solid

    Jesus, that voltage will kill the CPU if you're using air or prebuilt liquid cooling. You're going to need a custom water cooling to handle voltage above 1.3

    It looks fine to me :) The temps does not go higher than 50 under stress testing, and everything is working as it could. I almost think that I can go even higher if I want.
